Chris Seahorn reviewed Slater Lake Hike

A lot of road hiking due to heavy snow pack still. Lower lakes were worth it. Hike to Slater Lake mostly snow with quite a bit of post holing happening. Recommend snow shoes if you want to do Slater in the next few weeks.

Backpacked this trail first week of May from East entrance to weeping rock. The first 5 miles of the trail to stave spring are fairly moderate. We camped about a mile up from the junction to cable mtn and had some nice views. Highly recommend the hike to cable mtn look-up...it's well worth it. Watch out for rattle snakes....we saw a big one just off the trail. The hike from stave spring to weeping rock is 5+ with great views and little people till you get further down the canyon.

Very cool off the beaten path trail. We went in the evening and didn't see another person. I imagine this trail would be really cool after a recent run off when polls are full and some of the stream is flowing. The start of the trail can be tricky to find. Park your car and head east. If creek is dry head up the creek bed through the tunnel under the highway. Otherwise you can cross the highway and rejoin the creek bed from there.

Great hike but can get a bit crowded on the weekends. The hike to upper falls is worth it.
