Nice short hike through the woods to the falls. Can get pretty crowded and you are close enough to the road to hear car traffic the whole way. A lot of people jump off the boardwalk to climb up the falls.

chris bigelow reviewed Piedmont Overlook and Northridge Short Loop

Fairly short loop on a wide trail, but the steepness and the fact that there is minimal tree cover makes it seem slightly more strenuous than you might expect. Nice view at the top, and there are a lot of butterflies along the trail.

Gap Run is an ok trail, and you can make it a bigger loop by adding the north ridge (a little more difficult) and then back on south ridge to Boston Mill Rd. However, you get better views by simply doing the Piedmont Overlook trail.

Very short walk on a trail to the rock. This was my five year old's favorite hike on a recent trip to Yosemite. Nice views of the valley and surrounding area with very little work.

A must do if in Yosemite. Took me about 12 hours roundtrip, starting at 5am (an hour and 45 minutes before sunrise) - that allowed me to get to the top of Nevada Falls before I saw the sun.

    Random thoughts:
-The cables look worse than they are. I got pretty nervous when I saw them, but once I started up them they didn't seem so bad.
-Take your time, particularly on the sub dome and on the cables.
-While I took the JMT down from Nevada Falls to avoid so many steps, my favorite thing about it is that you get a great view of Nevada Falls, Liberty Cap, and Half Dome.
-Without a filter, there is nowhere to get water above the Vernal Falls footbridge. If you don't have a filter, figure out how much water you need and then add an extra liter.
-It took me about 5.25 hours to get to the top, spent 30 minutes on top, and then a little over 6 hours to get down.
-If you apply for a permit and don't get it, it might be worth doing as much of the hike as you can. I thought the views from the area near the bottom of the sub dome (before the ranger checks for a permit) are about as good as on top of Half Dome (if looking east at least), and who knows if you will get lucky and be able to be someone's +1.

This was the favorite hike in our group that included people ranging from frequent hikers used to difficult trails to someone who doesn't like walking too far to a five year old who likes the idea of a hike but tires out quickly. You get a lot of bang for your buck in such a short loop - tree cover along a river, a little bridge, a meadow with great mountain views, and even a few rocks to climb on the south side of the loop. There are several picnic tables near the parking lot - it is a great place to each lunch.

A nice hike through the Tokopah valley. Lots of rocks and boulders in the last quarter mile - make sure to wear proper footwear. The falls weren't exactly gushing in mid-August, but it was still nice to reach them. Saw a large marmot trying to find an unattended backpack at the end.

Easy, paved trail with a few places to shorten the loop in case you don't want to walk the full length. The day I did it was a busy day in the park (Yosemite valley was closed due to fire) yet there were still few people on the trail. Highlight for me was the House group, which is a large group clustered together that you can walk right under. My five year old loved it too.

Difficult but worth it. You get to see a waterfall, alpine meadow, and lake. Agree with rating it as hard (two people in our group turned around at the falls), but I’m not a fast hiker and I managed to do it less than six hours - you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Bonus points because the trailhead is accessible via public transportation.

Have done this a couple times, including once with family members of varying age range who were somewhat fit but infrequent hikers.
