Did this hike in the afternoon on a cool March day. When you start, a local homeowner told us to hug the fence to the left. There is a trail over there but it was super overgrown and multiple branches of the trail. Once you get up to the ridge it is much clearer. The bulk of the hike was out in the sun and would be HOT in the summer. The end of the hike was awesome
And nothing beats that view. There were some folks up there camping as there is some flat areas near the top.

I will totally bring my kids back to Don’t another time (my kids are ages 11 - 3).

Went with four of my kids (ages 10, 7, 4, and 2). My wife packed the 2 year old but the four year old walked on his own power. Went in the evening (started at 5:30pm) in April. The temperature was perfect. The hike was great. The kids loved it as there was so much to see the whole time. Would definitely go again. Take water!! Don't get dehydrated.

We took our four children on this hike (ages 9, 6, 3, &1). It was definitely muddy for nearly the entire hike. The baby rode in the backpack and the 3 y/o really struggled but we made it up and back!! It is an incredible view. And if you are using the Kailua tourist map, don't be deceived... it is NOT a 1 mile hike. This hike was closer to 6 miles and took us a total of 7 hours with a lot of breaks. It was worth doing at least once with the kids.
