GORGEOUS wonderland. Don't fear the less beaten path. Encountered a wild thornberry I'd love to meet again.
    Where are you?

IMPASSABLE due to remaining winter damage. Its neighbor, Whistle Punk Trail is in same state of disrepair. And FYI, Hemlock road is 8.6 miles north of Route 14 on Wind River Rd, not 5.5 as stated on profile.

From Bonneville trail head to PCT is still very muddy, otherwise the entire trek is in good condition. The blue sparkle of Gillette Lake is such a mesmerizing experience. This was well worth the easy hike. Incline variation was easily managed even with my arthritis. The logging destruction is a sad sight, but the lake isn't far past and is sure to brighten your spirit.

Fabulous hike. Very well cared for trail. Thank you, please keep it up. A great cardio for this out of shape gal and a wonderful view to make the climb beyond worth it. Despite the clouds I was able to make out the lower half of Mount St Helen. The sacred sites are breathtakingly powerful and simple. I'd do this one again and again. 50 minutes up, 30 minutes down.

Beautiful views of the river and dam. Distant view of Beacon rock from wildlife area. Passes Strawberry Island at one end of loop. Wonderful self guided tour of historic settlement area. Very easy walk or bicycle ride.

Trail is IMPASSIBLE, believe me.. I tried. This past winter destroyed this path. It is beyond just a few trees down. Having expected an easy, fairly boring hike I got a bit excited when I discovered an obstacle course in its place. The logging equipment seems to have been long decrepit and overgrown. The placards were however helpful in designating the way for the first half of the trail. After reaching the old growth we discovered some deep patches of snow which further masked the path. About a mile in, we had to turn around because we lost the trail. Honestly, we would have lost it multiple times prior to this point had it not been for my dog. I do not recommend this hike unless you're heading in with a chain saw and a prior knowledge of the trail or an outstanding sense of direction. Perhaps another time, Whistle Punk.
