Beautiful, but long hike. Make sure you bring plenty of food and water. Trekking poles were also a life saver and highly recommended. We started at Chief hosa and went to lookout Mtn. Trail where we had a ride waiting for us. It’s 11 miles ONE WAY. The trail was slightly muddy in some spots, but not icy. There are some sketchy spots on the trail that leaves little room for error. It’s not a trail I would take little kids. I’ve done 15-20 mile trails before, but this one seemed more challenging to me for some reason. The views are gorgeous though.

Really nice foothill hike with decent views. I went on a Wednesday around 4pm and there were only two spots left in the parking lot. Quite a few mountain bikers, but they were all very courteous. The views on Morrison Slide trail were pretty awesome. The trail was completely dry, with the exception of a couple of small areas, which were not a big deal at all. There is very little tree cover on this trail, so prepare for that. I’m not sure I would want to do this trail in the summer for that reason. Also, I figure this is a prime location for rattle snakes when it does get hot, so I’m glad I got it out of the way when I did. All in all, it was a good hike and would be a great starter hike to bring lowland visitors as they adjust to the altitude.

12-19-17 Easy access from Loveland Pass parking lot across from the continental divide sign. Arrived around 10am and got one of the last parking spots. Weather was absolutely gorgeous, so I was surprised to have the mountain all to ourselves. There were many back country skiers out enjoying the weather as well. Trail was easy to follow and most of the elevation gain is in the first mile (around 1k ft). The day we went microspikes weren’t needed, but after the recent snow I’m sure that has changed. Does get pretty windy after a mile or so in, so make sure you have plenty of layers on. It was cold enough at the top that my full phone battery was drained and turned off.

The views were absolutely stunning. I plan on doing this hike again in the summer and hitting Grizzly peak as well.

Gorgeous hike, but don’t let the moderate rating fool you. You will be hiking at an incline almost the entire hike. Almost 2k ft in elevation in a little over three miles. It’s a leg/lung burner for sure. According to my Garmin, this hike is 7.3 miles out and back.

Not much snow on the trail, but I was definitely glad to have my microspikes for the shaded areas because it’s pretty icy. Hiking poles are highly recommended as well.

Once we got above tree line it was extremely windy and cold! Winds in excess of 50 mph for sure. We stayed for maybe two minutes. Some people said it was so cold their phones stopped working. Kind of a bummer to hike the way only to get a mere glimpse and then head back down.

Got to the trailhead at 8 am and the lot was full, so we parked at the nearby Niwot picnic area. There is a trail across the street from the parking lot that you can take that connects with the loop trail instead of walking on the street back to the trailhead. It will add 0.5 mile to your trip. The trail itself was so beautiful and did not disappoint. It was very clean. Didn't see one piece of trash or bag of dog poop left on the trail. I brought some family that had recently flown in from Tx, and they did fine. The wildflowers are still present, but have definitely reached their peak by now. Doesn't detract from the beauty of this place though.

We started this hike at 4am and had the trail all to ourselves on 8/8. Unfortunately with the recent rains Timberline Falls was flowing too heavily to make the scramble up the falls. Risk outweighed the reward, so we turned back at that point. If you do plan on making the climb, be sure you pack a second outfit because you will get soaked. Not just your shoes, either... the trail is gorgeous, but I do recommend getting an early start because the trail was packed on the way down even on a Tuesday. We parked at Bear lake trailhead, but wish we had parked at glacier gorge. The last 0.5 miles to the TH was uphill, and we were tired at the end of our 10 miles. Overall the trail wasn't difficult until right before the falls. The elevation gain is pretty gentle until that part. The beauty is something to behold! Colorado at its finest.

The previous review wasn't lying when they said the trail is muddy. It's EXTREMELY muddy. Like mud soup 98% of the trail. There were a couple of snow banks near the top that are sketchy to cross. One in particular you could slide off, and down a steep hillside. For that reason it's best to hike this trail earlier in the day while the snow is safer to walk on. As the day goes on and the sun softens the snow, it's more difficult to cross. Some people turned around at this point. It's a shame because the views are absolutely stunning at the top. Even with all of the mud we had to trudge through, I would do this all over again. The views are that epic. There are lots of wildflowers now, and it will only get better. Definitely plan on doing this one again in late summer. Would've rated five stars if not for the muddy trail.

Not sure why this is such a popular hike. It was essentially like hiking up a rocky road until you reach the top. The trail is littered with bags of dog crap because people basically suck and are unaware of what LNT means. It's a very popular hike, so if you like seclusion this isn't the one for you. Sounded like there was also a shooting range nearby. We went late in the day 6pm, and saw several people on the way down, but the lake wasn't crowded at all. The views were okay, and any time in nature is time well spent, but I'm pretty sure it's a one and done type of hike for me.

Great hike to bring the kids. Such a beautiful trail with a roaring stream. Don't forget the bug spray though. With all of the Aspen trees, this will be a trail to hit again in the fall.
