Flat and easy trail. Saw the great prismatic spring overlook on the first part of the trail (it was stunning!) That early part of the trail was quite crowded but past that the crowds thinned out significantly. The falls are gorgeous of course! Imperial Geyser was fascinating to see. Saw a few other little steam holes and hot springs. Lots of wide open spaces with little tree cover so I recommend a hat and sunscreen. Saw a few bison along the way and some birds but not much other wildlife to speak of. Went at a peak time during the day and had no issues with parking. Thoroughly enjoyed this hike.

Had so much fun; so rare to find a hike like this that’s so easy but with such high return in the form of beautiful views. Lots of people were swimming in the lake but it was too cold for me. 1 bear sighting in the distance. We went on a Saturday morning and arrived at the trailhead at 10:40 (I know I know, but I *had* to check out a particular French bakery in Jackson first!) We ended waiting til 11:15 to get a parking spot. (NPS rangers were there ensuring order and preventing people from making up parking spots so there really wasn’t any way around the wait at that point). So go early or go late! (We returned to our car around 3pm and there wasn’t a wait anymore). The parking was really the hardest part of this hike. :) good tree cover, I didn’t need sunscreen. No issues with mosquitoes either. Such a magical place.

Fun trail! The first ~3 miles were calm/easy. Last bit has steep switchbacks (wear shoes with good grip and go slow). Waterfall is more stunning than the photos let on. We went 9/3/19 and had no issues with bugs. Also encountered only 2 other groups of hikers all day.

This hike is fine. Annoyingly steep and slippery dirt at the beginning; pretty decent views. Underwhelming porta-potty and radio towers at the top. Pretty sprays of wildflowers. Never feels that far from civilization. It’s a decent way to kill some time and be outside.

-More crowded than I expected for a random Tuesday! (6/26/18). Pulled into the parking lot at 8 sharp and there were only a few parking spots left; encountered many groups of fellow hikers in the trail and of course the summit was swarming with people. (most were polite, still a lovely time in nature)
-As others have said, the trail is really more like 12+ miles.
-I went through 3L of water. Was glad I brought ample snacks.
-still snow in late June but minimal; your sneakers will be fine ;)
-Parts of the trail are hard to follow but luckily other thoughtful hikers left cairns to follow! I *always* get lost but didn’t on this hike ;) You’ll be fine! download the map for comfort.
-Your stabilizer muscles will get a workout! Most of the trail is loose rock, requires a bit of focus/balance. I think I was just one big stumble/rock slide on the way down, haha. Recommend hiking shoes with good grip and ankle support.
-The “false summit” (approx 3 miles in, maybe less?) was my favorite spot for photos. But don’t stop there! The rest of the trail has some gorgeous scenery and wildflowers!
-Some people had their pups but I don’t think it’s a good idea. Lots of sharp rocks, and I imagine the rock gets scorching hot on their paws.
-Do this hike! Whatever your hesitations are, just do it do it do it!! (take your time and don’t get injured of course). Views are gorgeous, sprays of wildflowers, babbling streams, you’ll feel accomplished. Bring water, hat, sunscreen, wear good shoes and just do it :)
