Great little trail run from Elena parking, 9.1 mike RT, last couple miles more power walking than running with 2800 ft elevation gain:)

Cameron Burrup reviewed Mounts Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross Trail

At trailhead by 5:45, should've driven past the 'road closed' sign and it would've saved us an extra 1.3 miles on road,... trails well marked, maybe 30 people on all four peaks, did Democrat to Cameron to Lincoln to Bross and down,... all above tree line,... down and back to car in five plus hours. Kite lake still has glaciers in it and a beautiful 2-300 ft waterfall coming down into it. Great day and good weather!

Nice hike, very busy on wknd, 3400 ft elevation and still snow at top, see pics,... 9 yr old youngest and 46 oldest in our group of 8,... beautiful views of mosquito range and 14ers near Alma, Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln and Bross. Air was thin and bring sunscreen as burn is quick:). After tree line, full exposure for a while of hike yet. Happy Trails!

Love this gem,...hit it with my boys this am. My Garmin has always estimated the distance to the crest house and back at just under 15 miles with total elevation at 5478 from la luz trailhead to lookout point just above crest house and down. A few patches of snow that have only a few days of life yet with the 80 degree weather. Busy trail today with well over 100 people we ran into.

One of the most popular hikes in Albuquerque, just over 14 miles round trip. Highly recommend.

This hike may be better in spring when the run off allows for more of a waterfall as opposed to a trickle. The lower pool is anything but an emerald color and it was disappointing. As this hike is not strenuous, it can be crowded. There is an unmarked takeoff to the upper pool that is poorly groomed and not marked off to the left as one goes up the trail. Easy hike for families with kiddos.

This is a must do in Zion. A cool 90 minutes with a brisk walk up and slight jog down the face of this mammoth rock inside the park. Go early to avoid crowds. Did this most recently with my son and my brothers at a reunion. Great views and a must do in this national park.

This is a fabulous hike,... 3 miles round trip thru a slot canyon with spectacular views of tent rocks all along the way, the last quarter mile ascends about 5-600 feet to the top of a crest that overlooks the entire park. We were up and down in about 90 minutes, which is on the quick side. My boy and I climbed with his Cub Scout group and they all managed easily. There is full exposure on the top with shade while in the canyon in various portions,... truly a remarkable hike with many cool formations and photo opps. Highly recommend.

Cameron Burrup reviewed South Sandia Peak via Barts Trail

Tried to get up south peak from Bart's trail,... Once on Cole's road, the road was blocked by what looked like a disgruntled resident, so as opposed to 'trespassing,' I drove back down to the south crest trailhead just off exit 175 in Tijeras. The first five miles were lovely just after sunrise around 6 am. Mile 5.25 revealed a very overgrown trail. The alltrails app shows this hike as a 5.5 mile RT hike, which may be true if you do just the loop with the upper faulty trail, however, if you plan to ascend the summit from this side, the hike becomes significantly longer. I unfortunately went north at the embudito trail turn off,... I realized my mistake that I was continuing on the south crest trail but wanted to ascend the South Peak. I turned back after a half mile and then headed northwest along the embudito trail. This is where it gets a little tricky. About .3 miles or so, the trail has an immediate take off to the north and this entrance is overgrown. I suggest pulling up your alltrails app and clicking 'record,'... this will show you on gps your exact location in relation to this take off so as to not get lost. You need to use the trail entitled South Sandia Peak via Bart's trail however to see this route to South Peak. Once atop, the views are wonderful and worth all the effort. My RT with my excursion to the north along the south crest trail put me at about 14.5 miles with about a mile of that in excess as I missed the turn off. The elevation gain was 3400 feet and top elevation was 9785 ft. I used a garmin 235 which utilizes both gps and glonas systems to coordinate location. Anyway, enjoy and happy trails! Pictures posted on South Crest Trail via Tijeras as a separate trail on alltrails.
