Bryan Mills reviewed The Keyhole and Longs Peak via Longs Peak Trail

First time up on 8/18. Started at 2:30 am and got to the Boulderfield by about 4:30 am. From there lost the trail a few times due to rain the night before washing it out a bit. Wind toward the Keyhole was very sudden and oppressive (60-70 mph gusts at least). Didn’t know if that was normal or not since a bunch of people were turning around at that point. Really had to drum up the courage to go through. Reached the summit by 9 (waited for the wind to die down at the Keyhole to no avail).

High sustained wind really drew this hike out. Really had to be careful and go slow on the bouldery bits since the gusts could knock you down. On the way back it was windy the whole way to the tree line. Got wind burn on my face. Reached the parking lot by 2:30 P.

    Memorable and awesome for sure.

Bryan Mills reviewed Tour de Abyss Loop- Mount Evans, Bierstadt East Ridge, to Sawtooth

Holy crap that was hard. Took a long time to scramble but no time at all once you’re past the sawtooth. Be very careful; plenty of spots to slip and die. Not for beginner scramblers.

Bryan Mills reviewed Woods and Parnassus Mountain

Wow, what a hike. I’m pretty tired after that one for sure. Me and my group started out around 6 am and made Wood’s by 8 and Parnassus by 10ish. The first few miles are woodlands with plenty of stream crossings. The trail to Wood’s should become apparent once the tree line meshes with light marshy areas. Going up Parnassus was pretty taxing, but offered rewarding views all around (especially of the neighborhood 14ers to the south like Gray’s and Torrey’s and Mt. Evans and Massive). Coming down to the saddle and heading south from there is very steep with lots of loose rock. There is a light path for a little, but it’s basically all off trail from there. I found it easier to follow the main stream from the east, then heading back up a little until you hit the bend that leads to Wood’s.

Very good hike. Will do again, especially to incorporate Bard.

This was a challenging one. We went on 12/22 and it snowed throughout the day. We brought hiking spikes just in case (definitely needed them in this weather with this amount of scrambling).

Beware of big horns on this trail. They blocked our path at one point and wouldn’t move so we got kinda trapped up there.
