I've done this a few times from the Bill Riley trail with a cross over Mt Disappointment rd and onto san Gabriel peak. There are some steep switchbacks right out of the gate but the views to the east on the way up are incredible. Not to mention the handful of different aesthetics of forestry you pass through. You get a peek at the observatory and DTLA/the ocean on a clear day, then hike a little higher to the peak--a great 360 of the San Gabriels

Even on a Tuesday morning this trail is overrun with snobs on their phones, field trips, groups of taggers, irresponsible dog owners, and just overall way too many people. The Glendale Galleria is less crowded than Eaton Canyon, these people need to stay in the city. For a much better experience Monrovia Canyon is a few miles further that has a similar waterfall at the end and no awful mall crowds, because a five dollar parking pass is enough to scare away those who shouldn't be outside in the first place.

The waterfall itself looks cool but you'll be weaving through dozens of instagrammers and snapchatters sitting on the rocks with their heads down to get to it.
