lots of random trails after you get above tree line. no “right way”. views were great.

made it about 1/3 of the way up the final ascent. got snowed on, and the shale rocks were super slippery (especially coming down). hated not to go the entire way, but i was the only one up there if something happened. so i decided to be safe for once. just a heads up for anyone hiking it this late in the season.

super easy. but nice flowing creek/multiple small waterfalls the entire way. did it in about an hour, with a 10 minute or so break at the top.

also, went middle of the day and there were 4-5 people max. i think most don’t know about the trail, or skip it.

waste of time. unless you’re one of those city people that never hike - then go for it.

and for all those commenting that it’s windy. that’s relative to when you go - morning/afternoon, summer/winter. it’s like saying that the hike was rainy.

i’m a pretty avid hiker, started at 8 in the morning and finished at 4 with a lunch break and a few smaller ones. up to the first lake is mostly easy. after the next two, it gets a little tougher. but would still rate this trail as moderate. and there was some snow and freezing cold at the top (just a warning) in mid-september.

excellent views all around, too. i loved it.

enjoyed this hike more than the handful i did in glacier. i took the side trail coming back down. it was ok, nothing that great.

if you’re an avid hiker, consider skipping this one. highly overrated if you ask me. views are pretty much no different than driving the road. and the walk couldn’t be any easier. the only savior is the very steep side trail to the grinnell glacier overlook (and if you do do it, walk past where most people stop at the ‘top’ and go farther up the mountain to the right - stunning shots).
