Up, up, up! You’ll ascend roughly 6000 feet in 6.5 miles (total mileage is closer to 13). It’s a steep and relentless climb. I prefer the approaches from the Ski Hut or Devil’s Backbone in terms of beauty, but this is still a great and challenging hike. This is a good training run for Whitney or Cactus-to-Clouds.

I was surprised by the beauty of this little hike! It's a great overview of what hiking in the area can be - featuring multiple eco-zones, a nice water fall, fantastic views eastward towards Lake Arrowhead (great for sunrise), and if you head up towards Comanche Camp, you can even catch some great views of the surrounding peaks. Be warned: the road to the trailhead is rough; high clearance vehicle is necessary.

Brett Sanner reviewed Santa Catalina Island: Isthmus Cove to Parsons Landing

Backpacked to Parson's Landing from Two Harbors on 9/18. The winding trail is hot (no shade) and dusty, but the views along the coves and coastline are phenomenal. While you could do this as a day hike, staying at Parson's Landing (reservations requires) is a must. This is a beautiful beach-side camping area, with numerous trails and hill tops to explore in the area (along with swimming/fishing). Hard to believe that you're only a 30 miles from LA. Feels like a different world (reminded us of some more rustic Greek islands).

Summited on 9/13, just after some fresh snow fall. Wow! Beautiful hike. The canyon, surrounded by mountains framing King's Peak, is breathtaking. The hike itself is pretty easy but until the final two miles (or so), when things get steep and you're moving through rocks/boulders rather than trail (and at high altitude). Amazing panoramic from the peak; the views are worth the distance and work!

Great to get outside! The trail moves through the foothill valley and to Deer Creek. It offers some great views up to Cucamonga Peak, and some glimpses into the IE. Not a bad trail... but not as good as other local options.

Amazing hike - lives up to the hype and permit process/wait!

Left the Whitney Portal at 3am, summited at 11am (beating out an afternoon storm). The hike is long, grueling, and totally worth it! Hiking on August 8th, the trail was clear of snow except one snowfield just before the summit (microspikes were not necessary, but were helpful).

The hike is a challenge, but so worth the effort. It's a beautiful hike. You'll be gifted great views almost throughout the hike (Mt. Baldy; San G, San Jacinto, Saddle Back, and eventually Big Bear Lake). The hike itself is a steady incline - consistent but not as intense as Baldy or San G, for example.

Great introduction to area trees and ecology. Less of a hike than a nature walk... but a great nature walk, easy for kids, informative and beautiful.

So fun for the kids! Definitely worth the trip, but get there early (or midweek) to avoid the crowd.

Beautiful day for a really challenging hike! Not only is this a loooong hike (my watch clocked it in at 22 miles), it's a steep ascent the whole time. My legs were getting a bit wobbly over the last mile of the ascent. Beautiful hike – and scenic summit!
