YaY! I wanna live in this neighborhood. This is what “urban” should be all about.

Smiles all around. Off season; rarely saw any people. Spectacular scenery. Don’t forget to seek our Space Ship Rock. Hike to the back and climb to the top. Raced the sun to the top of Bell Rock for a geocache. Flashlights to climb down, and another hour night hiking to get back to the parking lot (near Circle K). Caught a predator tracking us on the west side of Bell rock. Thankful for glowing eyes and tactical flashlights.

Not really a hike. A small park with a short path. Of course, the attraction is the slide rock, but too cold during winter, except for the polar bear folks. Off season, the reduced $10 entry fee seems excessive, especially because all the amenities are closed. Major bummer is that dogs can’t accompany you to the most interesting parts of the area

Timing was everything. Arrived a few weeks late for the autumn color change, but treated to a spectacular sunset that bathed the Aspen in fire.

Turned this little walk into an all day adventure by going off the path near the monument, and heading into the forest. After passing some wilderness markers, came across a huge hill of boulders reaching a few hundred feet over the valley floor, with long views over the tree tops. Lots of vertical that required some dog lifting, but no special equipment required. Back at the bottom, found the wells over the Springs. Most impressive is the ancient well hidden in a cave at the base of a lava flow, marked by rock art. Bottom line, get off the trail and explore.

Easy peasy. Nice scenery. Leisurely stroll. Even saw folks with strollers. Many deer. A couple of geocaches.
