Got to the trailhead at 7:15am and there were 6 cars there, a lot of them probably camping. The first 1 1/2 miles is on a beautiful broad, smooth path through the forest. Don’t be deceived! It gets steeper and rockier (though never more than a moderate grade). You will pass through numerous talus fields, interspersed with fields of blooming beargrass. A stupendous view of Rainier keeps getting better and better. On the other side of the ridge, drop gently down through a beautiful forest surrounding the peaceful, quiet Mason Lake.

Got to the trailhead at 6:45 am on a Tuesday and there was 1 other person there. The “parking lot” is so small, I drove by it the first time. I mean, it’s really tiny, the size of a postage stamp! Only 6 cars can fit in it. The trail starts out with a nice wide path and few rocks and roots. After you cross a bridge, you enter a coniferous forest and the path is noticeably steeper, still no rocks, roots, or big steps. It took me 30 minutes to work through this area, then it is a short, very steep downhill to the launching area. The view is magnificent! Had a great view of downtown Seattle, Issaquah, and the piglet sound region. It was kind of hazy, so no Olympics or Cascades. There are a couple of streams with water for pups.

A nice quick morning hike. The middle section has a beautiful forest with a nice gentle path with beautiful trees and bushes. The first 0.3 mile is pretty steep, but it doesn’t last long, The last 0.6 mile has steep sections with big rock steps. The view from the summit is neat, with views of Mt. Si, North Bend, and distant mountains.

The first 1.7 of the trail are through a beautiful old growth forest with numerous river and waterfall views. The trail then goes through 4 extremely rocky switchbacks with numerous spikey rocks you have to pay very close attention to. I hate this part of the trail, though luckily it doesn’t last long! The last 1/2 mile climbs through the forest to the lake, with snow only appearing on the trail the last 100 yards of the trail. The ice on the lake looks like it’s melting quickly, it looks like it should be melted in another 3 weeks. Still a fair amount of snow at the lake.

Fun trail on a cloudy Friday. The first 1.5 mile is a gentle grade on an old road. The last .5 mile to the falls is steep and rocky, but not as bad as I expected. The falls are beautiful this time of year, and the sun peeked out from the clouds for a moment to shine directly on the falls! Cool. There are a few easy stream crossings, but the water on the trail is under control. Saw only a few people going up the trail, more on the way back. (Started the hike at 9:15 am.)

Went to the upper falls on a Tuesday morning. The trail gets very steep near the upper falls with numerous steep rock steps to go up. If you’re looking for a nice relaxing family outing I’d recommend stopping at the middle falls. If you’re looking for more of a conditioner, the upper falls works great. Beautiful trail with a great forest and river views.

Went on a day that was supposed to be sunny in Seattle—-the clouds were breaking up when I left at 7:30 am. However, by the time I got to the mountains it was socked in! The trail is short and steep. The steepest part only takes 1/2 hour to get through, and then it is clear sailing. Only 45 minutes to the summit at a slow pace. Waited at the summit for about 50 minutes for the clouds to break up, but they never did. The nice thing was I only saw 1 other person the whole time and had the trail and the lookout to myself. It was nice to be in the forest. Will be back on a for sure sunny day to see what I know to be a magnificent view.

Great early season conditioner. The trail is very steep in spots. The summit is nice because it is big enough you don’t have to worry about falling off of it! The main parking lot still had spots at 11:30 on a Tuesday. Love the flat section in the middle. Very peaceful and quiet.

Got to the trailhead at 10:15 on a Wednesday and there were 4 cars in the parking lot. Beautiful trees, beautiful river, beautiful trail, beautiful walk. The parking lot was almost full when I returned at 11:30.

Great trail, especially for so close in. People very unfriendly though.

A nice walk in the woods. A ton of snow on the trail, mostly hard packed. Would recommend hiking boots or snow boots.

Easy hike with way too many people. The trail was swarming with people at 7:20am on a Wednesday morning.

Beautiful sunny, warm day for a beautiful hike. Tons of people and dogs. The trip was still gorgeous though. Good season opener.

Beautiful trail, especially for being in the suburbs. Walk it with my dog when I don't feel like driving to the mountains.

This is a well-kept, beautiful trail. The climb from the middle falls to the upper falls is tough - an excellent conditioner. In the first mile, there is a beautiful stretch by the river. The river and falls are great! Lots of nice viewpoints and benches to sit on. Will be doing this hike this winter as a conditioner for next summer - hope I can stay in shape! Lots of dogs on the trail, including mine.

    Great for beginners.

This is a great hike. The trail is beautiful, with a large section of old-growth forest to walk through. The trail is a steady easy-moderate grade with no steeps! The view is beautiful, and it was dog-friendly for my Golden Retriever. IHowever, I went to see fall color and was disappointed there was very little on the trail.

This trail starts of easy, then the last .5 mile is really hard. Definitely not a "beginner" trail. The falls are beautiful, very wispy this time of year. It will be fun to come back in the spring, I'll probably get soaked!

Great hike. I was really worried that this trail was gonna be steep and rocky the whole way, and was pleasantly surprised to find a moderate incline and pesky rocks on only part of the trail. Went during the fires, so there was a ton of haze, but it was still a beautiful trip. Loved the forest in the first part of the trail.

Hiked Barlow Point today. I was worried my car would get broken into (there was a sign at the trailhead saying this was a high crime area.) but luckily, it was fine. There were about 15 cars parked at the trailhead, but most of them must have headed south, away from Barlow Point.
Lots of rocks on the trail, though not as bad as Lake 22. The trail was a steady uphill moderate grade throughout. Another beautiful warm NW summer day in September!

Awesome hike with fantastic views. Its a long drive in on good Forest Service roads. Hike a few miles along rolling Tonga Ridge, then make a moderate side trip up Mt. Sawyer for the views. Trail is in great shape. Worth the trip.

If you don't like people, you're not gonna like this hike. It is a conveyer belt of people, up and down the trail. Still, my dog and I had a good time. It has many beautiful views on the way up and down to the lake. The switchbacks were steep, rocky, and sunny. Harder than I thought. Overall, a great hike.

This is a nice little hike through alpine meadows and a nice forest. Very good views of the Snoqulamie pass area. I would say this trail is an "easy", rather than a "moderate" hike. I was looking for a nice relaxing hike to go on, as a break from some of the "harder" hikes I've been doing, and this one fit the bill perfectly. Good trail for dogs.

A good conditioning hike! Parts of the trail are so nice you don't even have to look at your feet!
I went with my Golden Retriever, and she did better than me! Lots of people on the trail.

Great hike. I went with my Golden Retriever and she breezed through it, while I had a more difficult time,
I have been hiking for 2 1/2 months and found this trail pretty hard, mostly because of all the rocks and tree roots you had to step up and over. Fabulous lake. Would do again.
