Bobby K reviewed Britton Ford Interpretive Hiking Trail

Well-maintained, well-marked peninsula loop trail in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Big Sandy Unit. The 2 mile main circuit is paved with crushed gravel. Several benches and nature interpretive markers along the way. An unpaved 0.5 mile spur (1 mile r/t) leads to a Tennessee River overlook. Lots of gentle ups-and-downs to keep the HR semi-elevated. A classic “woods on one side, water on the other” hike. Good winter views. A couple big fallen trees that require minor detours. ***HUNTING CLOSURES*** This trail is closed on the weekends and a few weekdays during fall bow/gun seasons (late September thru mid November).

Quick three mile loop that provides a decent work-out. Two or three moderate climbs in both directions. A mix of woods and pastures. Nice addition to the Warner Parks system. The single-track does narrow in a few spots (tall grass), so apply bug spray to ward off ticks.

Nicely maintained, well-marked and fairly wide Land Between the Lakes trail. Large, safe parking area. 4/5s of the hike is an enjoyable, but sort of routine, walk in the woods. A lot of spider webs, so grab a stick. I did the loop clockwise. After about 1.25 miles, you emerge onto the shorelines of Lake Barkley and Honker Lake. Nice water views. I saw several deer and beavers. The final two miles look like they could be seasonally marshy, but there are bridges over the inlets and low spots. The entire trail is dry and hard-packed in summer. A few gentle climbs with some improved steps. Nothing technical. Recorded distances vary because of marginally different routes back to the parking lot and/or nature center. Roughly 4.5-4.8 miles r/t. Worth it.

More like 3.5 stars because this is basically a pleasant but forgettable walk thru the woods. There are a few limestone ‘sinks’ and springs along the way, but nothing remarkable. By no means is this a bad or disappointing trail, instead it’s an easy 4.2 mile well-marked loop with a few stretches of tedium balanced by wildflowers and cedar glades.

Short easy-to-moderate loop with several small waterfalls. Well-marked and moderately trafficked. The first 0.8 mile is fairly mundane. The next mile is a beautiful creek side hike. One of the best little loops in TN.

Fairly short but steep descent to the falls (the walk back up is what makes this a moderate trail). Decent path with a few boardwalks and stairs in the tricky spots. Nice reward. Pretty waterfall. Not a gusher, but a pleasant setting.

Perimeter trails are often not the most scenic or rewarding because you're basically hiking the outer boundaries of the park w/ occasional views of nearby houses, roads, power lines, etc. Bowie is one of the nicest and most unspoiled parks in middle Tennessee. The park's perimeter trail, although really nice, is my least favorite, but there are so many adjoining interior trails that you can incorporate them into the perimeter route for a much more scenic tour.

Short and easy primitive trail just off the Natchez Trace Parkway. Wooded with limited views. Basically a hike in the woods with a couple creeks. Because of some old logging roads that cut thru the area, you can accidentally get off-track. Keep a look-out for trail markings.

Nice loop trail with great water views from several locations. Did this hike in winter when the lake level was low, so a ton of submerged litter was exposed along the shore. Amazing and sickening how much garbage gets tossed into such a pretty lake.

Easy out and back that takes you away from the busier side of the narrows (swimmers/kayakers/canoeists). Short trail leads to a historic manmade chute thru the base of the ridge. Be sure to climb the bluff stairs for awesome views. Great place to catch a sunrise.

Nice park easily accessed from I-40. Filled with a lot of "never knew this was here" moments. Mixture of bluff overlooks, wooded trails, open fields and quarry views. Good spot to put your kayak into the Harpeth.

Has more of the feel that you're meandering thru a series of fields, rather than hiking an actual trail. A different vibe than other middle Tennessee parks. Great for bird watching in winter. A small primitive campground about a mile in.

One of my favorite parts of Radnor Lake. This loop-spur climbs to a ridge that rewards hikers with great views.

Popular for a reason. Numerous great lake views and lots of wildlife. Parking can be a nightmare, especially on weekends. Nashville's oasis.

Short, easy, paved, multi-use arboretum loop. Wide variety of trees are marked with small identification badges. Nice views of surrounding hills, two small duck ponds and the Little Harpeth River. Bathrooms are only open for scheduled events. Perfect for a pre-work jog or post-work decompression. Stroller friendly. Bonus: A lending library kiosk at the trailhead.

    Bobby K reviewed Blue Trail

A nice wooded city park that preserves a large tract of land threatened by encroaching development. Four connected trails allow multiple hiking options. The Blue Trail is essentially the park's perimeter route. Most of this trail is wooded and well-marked. Some steep climbs with resting benches, but overall fairly easy-to-moderate. The Red Trail spur offers a short incline to a hilltop overlook. The only negative is the views of surrounding McMansions. Hard to believe this little gem is just minutes from the scar of Cool Springs.
