Hiked loop on April 28. Park Ranger recommended starting at at Fairlyland parking lot. Got to trailhead at 8:30am and started heading north. Beautiful descent into canyon with hoodoos galor. It was my brother's first time in southern Utah and he was in awe with the views. It's like being on Mars or something! Pretty light traffic the whole hike. About half way through starts the ascent back up to the rim trail. It's a good, long uphill so we took a few, quick breaks. Once up on the rim, we breaked for lunch just past the campgrounds. From there, the final 3 miles are relatively flat. Total time was 5 hours (including breaks), with probably 4 hours hiking at a very average 2mph.

Took a weekend trip to Moab to escape busy college life. Planned the roadtrip so that we could get here right at sunset and we couldn't have timed it better! Got there with about 10min before the sun was below the horizon, but still had time for some amazing views. Lost my camera lens cover down the gully, but my friend scooted down to get it back for me. Temperature was perfect, and distance was ideal. Definitely recommend a sunrise/sunset time to avoid the crowds!

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize that this was done mid-December. Seriously such a cool hike. We were the first ones to go up after a small snow fall, so fresh tracks all the way up, although it was a little slippery at parts. Falls were half frozen, which was also neat. Not sure about the traffic or conditions during summer, but this was a great early winter trek.

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize this was done early October. Got up early on a Sunday to start the trail at 5am in the dark. Used our headlamps for the first 1.5 hours or so. Got up in a little under 2 hours right as the sun was rising. Beautiful, clear view over the valley and behind the mountain. Heavy fog set in as we wer heading down, which was a really cool contrast against the bright colors of the fall leaves. Took just over 2 hours getting down since we stopped for so many pictures. Great hike, pretty steep at some parts, but worth the effort.

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize this was done mid-October. Probably my favorite hike of the trip. Felt a bit longer that we were expecting, but that may have been because we were tired from the day and the temperatures were quickly dropping. Anyways, very quite hike and the view was amazing at the lake. I had never seen a lake so still, and reflection of the mountains on the water was a mirror image. Beautiful spot to visit.

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize that this hike was done mid-October. Nice, quite trail with a fair amount of snow. We were warned about bear sightings in the area earlier that morning, but we didn't see any. However, after returning to our car and driving down the road a bit, we did come across a momma bear and two cubs!

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize that I was here in mid-October. Visited for a weekend to escape busy college life, and this was our first hike in the park. Very few people, which was a big plus. Falls were beautiful and already party freezing. On our way back, we went the rest of the way around the lake, not realizing how much longer it would take. Still enjoyable and recommend the hike to any visitor.

Catching up on some reviews, so recognize that I did this hike in early September. Went with some friends to hike this on Labor day. Quite possibly the worst day to do so. The parking lot closest to the lake was filled, so we had to park at the ski lodge. We could have taken a shuttle from there to the real trailhead, but the wait was 45min+, so we started our hike from there. Very sunny, hot, and exposed for most of it, so be prepared. Also, there were so many people! This would have been much nicer if the trail wasn't so backed up. Didn't stay long at the lake because of how many others were already there. Other than the heavy traffic, this would have been a nice, short, enjoyable hike.

Catching up on some reviews, so note that I did this in early September. I know many people start around 2am to get to the summit at sunrise, but I just wasn't done for that this go around. Started the trail around 7am and got back to the car around 2pm. Lots of people going both directions. The log at the top was already filled with 200 names, just from that day!! Saw a mother moose and her two babies, as well as a mountain goat. Beautifil wildflowers filled the fields. Great time with some good friends--would definitely recommend doing this one.

We started from the trailhead at 7:45pm Friday night and returned to the car by 4:10pm Saturday afternoon. Hiked very fast, but it was doable for my friend and I. Tip for driving there: either download a map for offline use, or if you're using printed directions then watch your odometer to know when to turn. We made a a couple wrong turns that put us back an hour from starting the hike. The hike in to Dollar Lake is fairly flat--nothing too strenuous, and we backpacked in two hours that first night. Set up camp in some trees by 10pm and were up again at 6am to start hiking at 7am. Got off the path and climbed up the shoot. Very difficult, but some others hikers said it cut the distance from the vally to the peak in half. Just be very careful climbing over all the boulders. Made it to the peak at 10:30am (3hr moving time) and back down our camp by 1:30 (2.5hr moving time). View from the peak was amazing! Well worth the effort. Also saw moose, dear, sheep, groundhogs, horses, and a LLAMA along the way. Weather was perfect; warm, but not hot, and the peak is quite breezy and cool. That said, we got pretty sunburnt, so still be sure to cover up. As for water, I kept two liters on me. Filtered and refilled them in the morning and they lasted the rest of the day, but probably could have used 3L. Lots of people, but no roads, power lines, or buildings in sight. Beautiful hike, and I'd definitely come back and take more time to explore the other features of the area.

Might be my new favorite spot! Good, steep hike the first half mile, but flattens after that to the lake The best parts:
    1. The aspens are beautiful and I'm sure they'll look even better in the fall.
    2. Flowers were in full bloom. Seriously, so many varities!!
    3. Surprisingly remote! May be in part becuase it was mid week, but we saw only a half dozen or so people the whole trip.
    4. We saw a moose! Two actually. They came out to the clearing right by our camp in the evening and stayed there most of the night. Needless to say we kept our distance.

Started around 6:15am, summitted around 9:45am, finished around 12:45pm. Already pretty warm when we started, and wouldn't want to start much later especially if you're planning to go all the way up as the rocks in the last half mile could get really hot and hurt your hands as you're climbing over them. Definitely a climb and you'll use all four limbs for that last portion. Not super dangerous, just watch your footing. Probably could have gone faster, but a member of our group really struggled on the way up (almost stopped 2mi in) and we had to take long, frequent breaks to get them up the rest of the way. Come well nourished and hydrated. I survived with 2L of water, but would have preferred 3L and something to snack on since I didn't get a big breakfast. Great views throughout the hike and not crowded. The view over the valley was nice.

Started the hike later than I would have liked--around 10:30am when we actually started the hike. Partly due to our own slow start to the day, but also becuase of how packed the park was. We couldn't find any parking at the visitor's center, and instead parked at the museum. Parking outside the park and taking the shuttle in may be a better option, but the transfer bus once in the park had a really long line as well. Anyways, the beginning and end were in direct sunlight, so I'm glad I brought plenty of water (2L and could have done more) but should have worn a hat as well. The middle part is shaded, but that's where the real elevation gain is, so it's not any easier. Made it to the top in just under 2 hours (we took some longer breaks on our way up). Also encountered a condor that was just a few feet away! AMAZING!! The chained sections were slow going with people coming from the other direction, but we weren't trying to rush and just took in the scenery. Rested 15 minutes or so at the top. Lots of people, but not overcrowded. The hike down only took 1.5 hours because fewer breaks were needed. Finished around 2pm. Some people were just beginning the hike at this time, but I'd highly advise against it--just too hot this time of year! Overall, an exhilirating hike and so glad I made the weekend trip to come. Be sure to bring a camera! Not for the faint-hearted, but still highly recommended.

Started around 8am and saw very few people on the way up! Got there with the cave to ourselves. Not too steep on the way up, but most of it is in the sun so I'm glad we went earlier. Took some sick pics, explored a bit, then made our way back down.

Took some people backpacking for their first times, and this hike was perfect! The most sketchy part was driving up to Silver Lake Reservoir! We did it in a minivan and saw some other cars, but a high-clearance vehicle is definitely preferred. Hit the trailhead early evening and made it to the lake in about an hour. Beautiful views on the way up! No snow up to Silver Lake. Not too chilly at night. Woke up early before the rest of the group and trailblazed my way to Silver Glance Lake. Definitely took the long way and almost gave up, but I made it and found the trail on the way back. Lots of snow and snow run-off up to Silver Glance--don't slip! Didn't go fishing, but we could see tons jumping around in Silver Lake! Day hikers started arriving around 10am and it started to get pretty crowded. We headed back down around 10:30. Great beginner backpacking trip, amazing scenery, definitely worth another visit!

First backpacking trip in Utah! Just a single night, but a much steeper hike than I was anticipating. Great views along the trail and at the lake. Pretty crowded, but that's expected on a weekend. I'll definitely be back!
