Great hike, very strenuous in the summer months. Bring poles as there are numerous wet sections with slippery rocks. Having two cars and parking one at the top of the mountain is nice and allows for a one way hike to the top.

Great place for a scenic bike ride down to the west end of the island. Most of it is paved railway trail. There are section where you have to connect to the next part of the trail along the main road. However this allows for stopping at local stores and restaurants along the journey. There are guided tours which can be fun as the guides are entertaining and talk about the flora, fauna and history of the island along the way.

Great view from the top. Not too strenuous, but not easy. On weekends parking can be a problem as the mountain can be crowded, in my opinion I would go on a weekday for this trail.

Good for the novice hiker, hardly any elevation change but it’s a fast wide trial. Watch out for bikers. Great for a day hike and a dip in the lake during the summer months, there are several beaches along the way. All which is needed is to cut off the trail at the right moment using a topo map and there you are at a secluded mountain lake beach. Great for a hammock overnight on the beach with a crackling campfire if you wish to make it a two day trip. Parking can be made at the bot slip.

My favourite day hike of all time, excellent cardio and nicely technical in areas. Be sure to bring plenty of water!

Great trail, well maintained, nice packed earth not any loose rocks, the steeper sections are short lived which allows for recovery at a fast pace.

It’s not called crowded mountain for nothing, if you are looking for a quiet hike go super early. But other than that it becomes a zoo of people, noisy some walk with music and cackle all the way up. If you are looking for exercise id say go for it, if you are looking for a taste of nature and bliss, avoid this one at all costs.

A must do if you are looking for a moderately strenuous hike, bring water. There is a restaurant on the Austria side of the trial. Wonderful day of the weather is nice.

Strenuous but the views are constantly breathtaking, so is the physical nature due to the altitude. Expect a full day!

Great for a quick workout on this loop, 70% of the trail is runnable and smooth with little roots and rocks to worry about. The climb to the top on the backside is short but strenuous if you’re new to hiking.

Can go for miles, plenty of camping along the river relatively moderate-easy along this trail but getting down to it is a strenuous hike, recommend poles, water filter, hammocks!

Make sure you have water and ways to filter, there is a pipe spring at the top. But that’s a long way up. Round trip to the top can be done in 6-7hrs. Hiking poles can really help on this one. The saddle about 2/3rds to the summit boasts great views for camping (no water there bring enough) the best times to hike here is in the fall-spring. Once summer hits the views are diminished due to vegetation.

Great hike to the top, steep elevation change, there is usually water at the top form a pipe spring, but there have been times I have seen it dry, so don’t count on it. Make sure you are careful with your footing. On the trail there are sections of looks rocks which could easily turn the day into a rolled ankle or twisted knee. The camping is great at the top as long as it’s not too windy. Sometimes when there are wind storms it feels sounds lame a freight train whipping past. The views of linville gorge are spectacular!!!!
