Great beginner hike. You’re on a fire rd, trail is wide and clean, lots of acorns on the ground. Take a headlamp if you’re hiking down after sunset. I felt very safe hiking in the dark, I saw 2 bany owls who followed me for a good 400+ feet. Just beautiful. As you’re hiking down the mountain you get views of all the city lights. Then dark mountains again, unless Mt Baldy has a show going on, then you see lights up there.

Great hike, 1st mile and last 1/2 has good elevation gain but not too bad. Gorgeous views. Busy trail but enough room for everyone. Weather gets cooler as you reach elevation.

Great hike. We took the fire rd. There was shade most of the way. Gradual incline. Gorgeous views and sunset is amazing! Great for beginners.

EVENTFUL TREKKING ALL THE WAY UP THE MANY SWITCHBACKS AND OVER FAKE PEAKS AND UP TO THE PEAK...definitely a beautiful hike, a bear ran across the trail 45 feet in front of me. Does and buck grazing and curious chipmunks along the way. It took me 12.5 hours with a slower pace and break along way not to mention pictures. Drank all 6litters of water.

GORGEOUS hike-switchbacks in the beginning for an hour? But not bad at all. Once you come out switchbacks the terrain opens up to a majestic Manzanita blanket with giant boulders scattered throughout the valley. I was speechless, it was a view out of Narnia books/movie...A MUST SEE!!! the climb to the top is less green but the view continues to amaze. There is a flowing creek halfway up, we filled up no filter and I'm still alive didn't get sick. When you pass monument, you're going to come up to a Y , head rt, theres little rocks accross it making it appear as if wrong oath, not so. The PEAK is beautiful with spectacular views. If you keep your eyes open and stop to look around you may see wildlife, i saw a deer bedded down under a tree shade.

WOW! beautiful hike, however, very rocky, lots of gravel on most of the trail. My feet and knees were barking downhill and I had trekking poles. We started at 7:30a Friday morning, didn't run into too many hikers. We reached the summit at 1p taking breaks along the way. Gorgeous view from summit.
The saddle junction gets super windy plan on breaking before or past it. Not much wind except for junction. First 2 miles really pretty, ruins from old cabins. River rushing through- makes for gorgeous photos.

This trail is more like 16 miles loop. Gorgeous! You're in the shade the majority of the time. The last 3 miles are full of switch backs but it doesn't get grueling until the last 1.4 miles. I'm 5"8 and was practically doing squats up this portion of trail. It was the never ending mile lol. We got there at 6:15am on Saturday and the parking lot was full, we did get a spot on side of road not far from parking lot, any later and we would have added addl footsteps to this hike. Bring plenty of water, there are water stations up at the cafe by Observatory. There's lots of mosquitoes so be prepared to bring insect repellent.
