Kelly Beane reviewed Maple Pass Loop

The biggest bang for your 7 mile buck your going to find anywhere. The trailhead is right at Rainy Pass; huge parking lot. I did this when my husband came to pick me up from my 5 days of hiking on the PCT from Hart's down to Rainy. This was a great grand finale. Story and pics on my blog.

I didn't do the lake (but you can see it from the pass) but came down from Hart's Pass to Rainy Pass. This is an amazing section of the PCT. My blog has pictures and the story.

Day 2 of my 6 days in this area. The place I camped just below Grasshopper pass is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. (larches in full swing!) Link below to my blog with lots of pics and more info.

This was day 1 of my several day jaunt on the PCT. The hike is amazing. The drive is a monster! My blog (link below) has lots of pictures and a story. One thing I didn't mention is the weird hut thing you come across on the trail. We didn't make it all the way to it to find out what it was, but I later found out it's a yurt used by a company that does heli-skiing. I think they should sell snacks to thru hikers. :)

I took my daughter on this hike for her first backpack. It couldn't have been more perfect. We were very lucky to get a permit so last minute; even the day before Fourth of July weekend! This is rated difficult only because of the length I'm sure. It's a very flat hike. One section is carved right out of the side of the cliff and is right over the lake--just beautiful. I wanted to do Desolation Peak as well, but got rained out. For the story and pics go to http://kellbell-whywouldanyonereadthis.blogspot.com/2013/06/east-bank-trail-ross-lake-part-one.html

This was one of my very favorite backpacking trips. Absolutely gorgeous. Don't let the 7.5 miles round trip fool you--it's a push and would make for a pretty hard day hike. For story and pics go to http://kellbell-whywouldanyonereadthis.blogspot.com/2012/10/lake-ann-mount-baker-hwy.html

We camped here a long time ago; wish we would have had the option of staying in one of the cute new cabins they offer now. This hike is a classic; go in the spring to see the falls true power. Beautiful hike with a lot of history. Makes a great "date" hike, especially if you stay at Roche Harbor! Or you could camp, (not at this park though)-- it just costs so much to ride the ferry to get to the island, you really should stay awile. I hike this hill all the time. Trail builders have done a ton of work; there are many options. I wish I was a mountain biker, because it really caters to that. Pictures and story are on my blog.

A great hike for a nice winter day when everything in the mountains is under snow. There are two hikes, and they go in opposite directions, and one of them (lighthouse point) splits in two; it can be a little confusing. I didn't realize this until later, and then I went back and did both. For the stories and more pics, go to my blog.

There are SO many hiking/biking/horse trails in this area--if you want to explore you really need a map. If you want to just go around the lake, it's pretty straight forward as long as you stay close to the lake. I would say it's only about 4 miles though. For more information and pictures, go to my blog.

This was one of the most amazing hikes of my life. You'll have to click on the link to my blog to see pictures, but we came across a sperm whale! (dead, sadly) We had to hike the last leg of the hike in the dark, so we were really thankful for the boarded trail.

The only bad thing is about this trail is trying to get there...the ferries can be a nightmare. We drove it, then hiked it. Just because you can drive to the top does not mean it's not worth the hike.
