Brian Fisher reviewed Glacier Lakes Trail

Easy trail to navigate with signage provided by an apparent Eagle Scout project a few years ago. Backpacked this on 7/22 and it had a little patchy snow. Nothing to cause issue. Several area to camp a short distance from lake. High exposure during higher elevation portions but as you hike down into the valley, you hike thru a large forested area. No major water crossings to be worried about. Overall, a great hike and gives you the option of hiking past to the Five Lakes area.

Easy trail to navigate. Good signage. Little Jamison Falls are just off the trail and a nice view. Currently, the road to the trailhead had a washout and is closed...so had to hike from main road which added approx 1.5 miles each direction. Only negative is there are not many tenting sites at this lake. Well worth the hike.

Trail is well defined and easy to follow. Does still have snow on the trail in some areas which increases difficulty a little. Snow is melting quickly though. Trail is muddy so bring appropriate boots. (Unfortunately, some have made new trails because they don't want to get dirty/muddy.) Creeks/streams running high - so suggest water shoes as you will get wet during one of them on the north side of the meadow after the cabin. Otherwise, great time with beautiful views.

Nicely maintained trail with a lot of tree coverage. Very popular. Many people on the trail this day (including dogs) - unfortunately almost all of the dogs were not leashed. Trail has a gradual incline with a couple decent inclines. Not too bad though. Creek was running nicely after our epic winter. Will do this trail again.

A nice hike to a pretty little lake. Trail is pretty easy to follow and is appropriately considered a moderate level trail. We didn't hike to Upper Lola Montez as the smoke from a fire had come in and settled in the area. I was not a big fan of hiking on the private gravel road so much as I enjoy the single track trail better - but c'est la vie. There are some decent areas to tent overnight (which we did) if one so desires but this hike is definitely doable as a out and back single day hike. The first water crossing was flowing really well and we waded across in about 18" of water. The second water crossing from the meadow, we were able to stay on the log which crossed it with the assistance of trekking polls. Overall, a nice hike, but as a prior reviewer reminded, be respectful to the local land owners as you are hiking on private property for part of the hike. Also, watch out for mountain bikers coming down the trail.

A nice short trail - good for those looking to stretch their legs in anticipation of the snow melting in the higher elevations. Typical Eastern Sierra's on the first part (no trees) - However, just a little bit before the waterfall, you come to a nice forested area. The trail is easy to follow but does have some areas where it is eroding and needs some maintenance. We went yesterday (4/24) and the waterfall is flowing nicely. All in all, a good trail and I look forward to doing it again.

A neat little day hike for the family. I would rate this as an easy level as it does not have much elevation difference and is relatively short. Great for kids and dogs. I agree with a previous reviewer to suggest going counterclockwise. On this hike, you will be greeted by several lakes including Big Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake, Cub Lake, Long Lake, Silver Lake, Round Lake and Veronica Lake (although this one was pretty dried up :( ). Our GPS showed that we hiked 5.4 miles.

An absolutely beautiful hike and the destinations were spectacular. Mostly uphill which was a little difficult on my daughter (11 yrs) who was backpacking for the first time with a pack. I would definitely suggest trekking poles which are especially helpful in the rocky terrain. Some of the trail is tough to follow in one of the granite areas - look for the trail markers. They are helpful but be careful not to trust them too much as there are a lot of them and some hikers have made their own trail over the granite area. All in all, once you get up the granite rock face, you should be able to find the trail without much difficulty. We stayed overnight at Middle Loch Leven as we heard from a dayhiker who was headed down that High Loch was pretty full. We hiked to High Loch as a day hike in the morning. All three lakes are extremely picturesque. Our total hike was 9.8 miles with an 1145 elevation difference (which includes a little side hike to the top of a knoll to watch the sunrise).

This was a easy/moderate hike. Started from Spooner Lake parking area (6950 ft) and peaked about 8210 ft along the trail before descending into Marlette Lake. The views along the trail are good but the real views are obtained if you head up to the top of Marlette Peak or Snowy Peak. There, you can get some great pictures of Marlette Lake with Lake Tahoe in the background. We had lunch at Marlette Lake before heading back. We took the hiking only trail up (which parallels North Canyon Rd). We took the road back down from the lake. Watch for mountain bikers on the road as this is a very popular area for biking as the Flume trail starts at Marlette. Overall, a great hike. I want to go back in the fall as I have heard the Aspen groves are just beautiful at that time.

Not much to this trail. You do go through some nice meadows and a couple aspen groves. Not much elevation difference along the trail. I would definitely rate this an easy hike. The trail was well defined and not difficult to navigate. Enjoy.

Absolutely amazing views from the Martis Peak fire lookout. The trail was in good shape all the way up. This I would consider a moderate level hike. Started at the Brockway Summit (Highway 267). When you reach the paved road up to the fire lookout, the climb gets steep. Be careful along the trail for mountain bikes coming down. Bikers get dropped off at the lookout and travel down to Brockway Summit. Along the trail you come across some nice views of Lake Tahoe. But the real views are from the fire lookout. From there, you can see Lake Tahoe, Donner, Prosser, Boca and Stampede Lakes. My son and I had a picnic at the picnic table below the fire lookout before heading back down the mountain. There is also a public bathroom at the lookout. A great hike with amazing views.

Brian Fisher reviewed Mt Judah Loop Trail

I would rate this as an easy/moderate hike. Nice views of Donner Lake from top of Mt Judah. A lot of switchbacks at the beginning/end of the hike, but once past those, the trail becomes a lot more manageable. Trail has some steep drop-offs on the back side of the mountain. Nice day hike for the family (youngest being 10).
