Barbara Muñoz reviewed Neff's Canyon Loop

We took the trail on the right side of the parking lot and the main trail down, and we were glad we did it that way. The trail to the right was pretty and mostly shaded and the main trail down was loose rock and gravel. Yes, lots of side trails, but use GPS and you’ll be fine. The views of the valley were gorgeous on the way down. No desire to do it again, but it was a nice short trail for a Sunday afternoon.

Full disclosure: we only did the first mile of this hike to the Red Pine split, but what an amazing trail so far! So many families with small children doing just a portion of the trail as well. I love a trail that is gorgeous even if you don’t go to the destination. The journey, any part of it, is worth it on the trail. Views of the valley, the river, and a gradual incline made this a nice little hike. Would love to come back someday in better shape and do the whole thing!

This is not the sort of hike where you’ll see stunning mountain vistas, but for what it is - more of an urban hike- it’s lovely. It’s full exposure, so spring or fall is the perfect time for it. The view from sunset point is pretty incredible as you can see most of the Salt Lake valley, the Great Salt Lake, and into Davis and Weber Counties. This could not be more fitting for small children as the incline is gradual and only 2 miles to do the shortcut route. The trail is well marked and well-maintained. Would do this again for a short hike with great city views.

So glad we took the trail down from the overlook. All the elevation gain is right at the trailhead on the south end, but they have installed steps that make it very doable. On a Saturday in January we pretty much had the trail to ourselves.

My husband and I took the route counterclockwise and decided to use the primitive trail to return. I would not necessarily recommend that way in the winter as it involves walking quite a bit in the shade behind the rock walls and some scrambling on ice near the end. That said, we got some wonderful pictures and it was much quieter on that stretch of the trail. It only adds another 1/4 mile to the route.

Take the 10 minutes to walk up under these two arches even though you can see it from the road. It is stunning up close.

Beautiful, relatively flat trail. This would be an absolute breeze in warmer weather, but if you plan on visiting in the next few weeks or anytime there is snow on the ground, there is a good chance you will be walking on some very icy patches. Nothing too treacherous as there are no dropoffs on this trail, but you could land on your butt if not careful. I would recommend actual hiking boots and even poles if you need some extra help.

Did this one in the late afternoon so it was shaded the entire way. It's uphill the entire way, but a gradual incline so it never became strenuous. You cross many small runoff streams, so wear shoes that can get wet. The most difficult part is climbing some tree roots right before the falls, but even that part wasn't too difficult. Overall this was a fun, beautiful hike good for pretty much any skill level.

This is a beautiful, challenging hike. Not sure I would do it again all the way to the falls, though. The last third of a mile is a climb up a field of boulders and then to get a decent view of the falls, you have to descend a short, steep hill with loose dirt. I recommend bringing plenty of water and snacks and wearing good boots and using trekking poles for the descent. This hike is on the harder end of moderate if you're in reasonably good shape.

Perfect hike for kids and beginners. Nearly flat, gorgeous scenery, and a quiet lake. But OMG the mosquitoes in July! Would love to do this in the fall before the snow because the swarms of mosquitoes detracted a bit from the hike. They don't care about biting through OFF or clothing!

Hands down one of my new favorite hikes in the Wasatch! My husband and I set out to stop at Catherine's pass, but some hikers coming down convinced us to go a bit higher for the view. We were running low on water so decided not to go all the way to the peak, but the views even a few hundred feet below are still stunning. We will definitely be back in the fall for the colors (with more water) and make it to peak.

Such a beautiful trail with a fair amount of wildflowers, aspens, the sound of a stream most of the way...and many, many bugs (none of them biting, fortunately, just TONS of flies). The trail gets quite a bit of sun between about 10:00am and 3:00pm in the summer, but is perfect for early morning and late afternoon and evening. It's a consistent uphill climb, so you will certainly feel like you're getting your exercise!
