Baileigh Studer reviewed Daicey Pond Nature Trail

Great little trail for a short trip! A bit muddy from frequent rain but nothing you can't handle, just a forewarning for those wearing tennis shoes! Pass through a bunch of blueberry bushes so be on the lookout for ripe ones, this the season! Big and little Niagra are also both great viewpoints

I was pretty excited to run this trail while passing through the area, I never could find it. The directions brought me to an intersection of the highway and a road and I saw no signs for this trail. I rode into the campground and still saw no signs. Maybe not being from the area I don't know what to look for but I would like better directions/signage

Baileigh Studer reviewed Ice Lake Basin Trail

Let me start out by saying the trail is WONDERFUL, but there is still a bit of ice over the lake, meaning you couldn't see the brilliant turquoise that it's famous for.

At this time of year (06.29.2017) there were lots of stream crossings so my pup was pretty excited!! A few sketch crossings, one with a "bridge" (two logs to shimmy across with nothing to hang on to) and one you had to get a little wet crossing. Also, after the basin, you have to cross a few snow passes which are slippery if you don't have the right shoes. Trekking poles definitely help.

Tough if you're not used to the elevation, took me 3+ hours to reach the lake. If you take your time and start early, there is no worry. The weather was perfect, blue skies and warm enough to hike in a tank top but the lake was pretty windy and I put on a long sleeve.

The basin (approx 2.5 or 3 miles) is stunning, by far my favorite part of the entire trail. So green, clear blue streams, multiple waterfalls coming down the mountains above, wildflowers.

probably a good trail... showed up here with my dog to find all kinds of military people in uniform doing stuff. I guess I interrupted something. of course you can't see the parking lot from the road so I felt awful awkward when I saw all of them and had to turn around and drive out

Decided to sleep in my car at the trailhead to #1: get an actual parking spot since I knew it'd be busy, and #2: get up early for the sunrise. Night hiking left me with some amazing star views!! Left at 5am and made it to the top a little before 7am. And by top, I mean I continued up past the Leconte lodge another .8 of a mile to Myrtle point (HIGHLY recommend the added mileage, panoramic view of surrounding mountains!) Before the sun came up, someone said it was about 27°F and it was a bit breezy, so be prepared!! Came back down to the lodge around 8:30 to explore everything I missed hiking in the dark on the way up. Nice office/community area. Several merch items to buy. Recommended by a fellow hiker to hit Cliff Tops while I was up there as well (additional .5 of a mile RT) and I'm glad I did!! Also well worth the view and extra effort. Ended up meeting some new friends up there with whom I hiked all the way back down to the parking lot with.
Overall, trail was very well maintained, the weekday restoration looks great. Very steep, TONS of stairs, very busy if you leave anytime after 9 or 10am. Views are well worth the efforts though!!

Falls weren't super impressive in themselves but the area was still stunning! The cave looks like a blast as well but bring a flashlight and some sturdy boots!! Definitely will be returning after a good rain and/or with some boots and a flashlight!
