This was a challenging but beautiful hike. About 1 to 1.5 miles in it gets very steep and you will get a major stair master workout! That’s the hardest part and then it’s not o bad the rest of the way. There are some long flat parts for you to catch your breath and recover. The summit is worth any pain to get there. Amazing views everywhere you look. If you’re afraid of heights maybe don’t do this hike, as the last little stretch up the foot trail to Clouds Rest has drop offs to either side. I didn’t find it scary at all, but my fiancé was a quite unnerved by it. Either way you will be fine as long as you watch your footing. We started at 7 am on a Monday in September and we were the first ones to the top. It took us 3 hours to get to the summit and a little less than 3 hours back down. We hung out at the top for a while because we could believe we were the only ones there. On the way down we passed a lot of people coming up, so start as early as you can and do a week day! We did this hike because we lost the half dome lottery, but I’m honestly happy about. Clouds Rest was everything I wanted, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
