Anthony Lambright reviewed Painted Hills Overlook

This is more of a destination for taking in some amazing views than it is a hike. Best to go early as it’s a popular spot and is more enjoyable with fewer people around.

Easy hike with great overlooks. We hiked this in the morning and were glad we did given how exposed you are to the sun for much of the hike. There are some great benches with shade along the way for taking breaks to enjoy the lookouts and cooking off.

When reaching the trailhead you have the option of hard or harder, I took the hard path. Awesome hike in spring, lots of flowers blooming and at least when I went the winds were really tame. It’s a quad burner for sure with the incline and maybe not the best if you have any knee issues. Views are awesome, great view of the Oregon side of the gorge. Great for people with energetic dogs that feed off off exercise. All in all a great hike that left me a little sore a couple days after. Be aware that due to last year’s fires, many gorge trails are still closed making hike options limited, might want to get up early.

All in all the views and surroundings of this hike are beautiful. Only real drawback is the crowds of people who flock to this spot. That said, everyone was kind and considerate to each other but not the best hike for someone looking for solitude.

Great for all ages. Hike offers a glimpse at some new growth forest as well as up close access to water features. Has plenty of good rest stop hang out spots to take a break and take in the surroundings.

As described, this is a very easy hike that's great for all ages. Lots of beautiful sights. Cool stones and clear water along the bank. This was the last hike we went on before leaving the park. We were there at the end of the season so there weren't many other hikers which was nice. Not sure it would have been as fun during busy season, but still one worth doing even if it's busy.

Fun hike that's suited for all ages. Did this hike with my parents. One of my favorite hikes we went on. (Even spotted a bear at the lake!)

Easy beach stroll with views of sea critters and rock formations. Due to it being such a popular spot, Its almost more fun to go when the weather is ugly.

This hike took me the better part of an afternoon and was absolutely worth it. Offers amazing overlook of the gorge and lots of interesting rock formations. Not a bad idea to pack an extra water bottle for this hike. I went late fall and only saw a few people over the course of the entire hike. I'm sure this changes when the weather is warmer. This is one of my favorite hikes in the Gorge so far

Easy stroll on flat land. We went in mid March and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Offered us a view of some cheeky seals as well as a bald eagle near the jetty. The inland part of the hike is also a nice departure from the windy walk along the water. This hike is certainly worth doing once.
