Amy Pandolfi reviewed Keewaydin Trail to Overlook Spur via Long Trail (Appalachian Trail)

This is one of my new favorite hikes! I agree with other hikers here that this trail should be rated Moderate in place of Hard. Rocks were quite wet and trail very slippery in a few places; trail not as steep as was expecting. There is one marked path to the cascades (White blazed AT). There is another unmarked narrow path to the 30 ft high waterfall though more difficult to find in the fall as the leaves cover the trail. Make sure to take the blue blazed path on your right to the overlook! As of October 2018, there was a bee's nest under/within the rock outcropping at the last outlook spot of the cliff area. Saw a kestrel at the second to last overlook spot while eating lunch there. I would say the views are pretty spectacular.

The best feature of this trail is the enormous "Creature Rock" though the view is nice as well. Ledge road boasts many mini water cascades worth exploring too. Also, if looking to do a longer hike, download the Athens Dome Hiking Area map (search the Pinnacle Windmill Hill Association website) to hike 6 miles total; for Creature Rock, Lake Summit, Bear hill Overlook, Soapstone Quarry area, and then back down to Ledges road and parking lot. On this loop (currently not listed on alltrails) you hike through a forested wetland with much evidence of Moose!

Delightful and beautiful trail, easy walk most of the way to the falls. The foot path follows the brook the entire way to the Cascade. Very nice on a hot day as well- feels cool in the gorge-like waterfall area. Make sure you plan ahead or read up on where to park!

Fascinating place, very grounding, somewhat surreal, worth every penny.

If you had to choose one hike out of many in the Berkshires, this is the one, particularly beautiful/scenic/interesting in the fall.

I love this trail- from Branch Pond to Bourn Pond- however I would rate this as moderately easy instead of easy, due to the alert footwork needed for most of this trail. When you step into the Lye Brook Wilderness, its as if you've stepped into another world. Boggy with eskers and slightly eerie. Am planning my next hike into the Lye Brook Wilderness already.

Amy Pandolfi reviewed Osmore Pond Hiking Loop

This particular trail is fine, though ironically doesn't seem well maintained. There were several trees down in the trail that hadn't been moved or cut, and there was one tricky section that looked like a blow down had occurred. I say this is ironic because its one of the few areas you pay a park fee as opposed to Owls Head and Kettle Pond. Also, doesn't seem much traveled as I walked through a bazillion spider webs, especially on the loop side opposite the put-in area. I would suggest doing an out and back hike thru the side of Osmore Pond with a group shelter to the top of Big Deer- which has amazing views and is moderately easy as a hike.

Wow, this trail is absolutely stunning. Yes there's a pond and a few nice views of the pond and surrounding views along this slippery loop trail, however the trail alone is worth visiting for this hike. Its kind of like- whatever you envisioned as woods in fairy tales when you were a child.

I met up with a group, not that I planned to, and hiked this near-4 mile loop instead of the shorter 2 mile out and back popularly listed on alltrails. Fantastic hike with moss covered rocks and boulders, mushrooms galore, and a wonderful view. Just take care at the view, as there are no flat boulders to run around on! I would not rate this trail as easy though- due to the steep nature once you go past the overlook and up to the viewless peak, and then steeply back down to the AT trail. Overall a great trail, well maintained and intuitive. Planning to come back for sure.

There is another trail access opposite the listed access here, if coming from Gifford Woods- at Thundering Brook Rd with an obvious trailhead. The trail might add .3 or .4 miles round trip for the journey and has a long boardwalk over beautiful meadows. The falls are beautiful, though difficult to photograph in the early evening due to being bright up top and dark down below. I would suggest an early morning photography shoot or on a very cloudy day.

Amy Pandolfi reviewed Little Rock Pond via Long Trail (Appalachian Trail)

I found this trail to be difficult with the footing, stepping on and in between pointy rocks and numerous exposed tree roots for 85 percent of the journey, but I could have been having an off day for hiking too. The pond is definitely worth visiting. Seemed like a very remote place, with lots of AT/LT hikers passing through this time of year. It is very picturesque with dozens.of mini water cascades flowing among moss covered rocks. I also found lions mane (mushroom) here which was a pleasant surprise.

We took the South trail going up and then did a slightly longer loop taking Clark Trail, then back west on the Hurricane Trail (uphill again) before heading down on the West Trail. Best part aside from the amazing views, was the mossy forest along Hurricane Trail. If you have the opportunity, take the extra .5 miles to head Southeast on Clark Trail, then West on Hurricane before heading down on West. Or, take the South trail going up and down.

This is an excellent walking trail, and if your intentions are to walk and see wildlife peacefully, make sure to take the Quiet Side trail (if beginning from the downtown Stowe area). I have been here a few times, and have seen many beavers and other animals along this path. The views are great too!

    Amy Pandolfi reviewed Emerald Lake

Very serene area. I walked to the beginning of the loop and back, since a microburst storm fell upon me, but nonetheless a beautiful trail with lots of lichen and mushrooms to discover. Looks like a perfect kayaking spot too, if you want to spend the money to rent one of theirs. (It would be difficult to lug yours down to the put-in area.)

This trail is amazing, with several small cascades and one very tall one before turning right to keep climbing up. The west view is the ticket, and the summit is less so, but there is a view if you climb the tower. I would not rate this trail as moderate, but hard. I am comparing this to WMNF trails labeled moderate which are significantly easier, as well as comparing to Catstill mountain trails labeled hard and rightly so. Just be prepared for a big workout.
