Really lovely hike. I used the all trails navigation and parked just ahead of the entrance. I hiked last week and there was plenty of snow, used spikes and a pole. I was the only hiker and it was beautiful. The first half was pretty easy with a little bit of climb. Tons of brooks and streams. Second half was a bit more interesting. All very well marked. On the way back there are a few opportunities for views tho it's mostly insular. However, about 200 feet before the exit the trail gets very narrow alongside a brook (about three feet wide) and maybe 15-20 feet high and with the snow obviously slippery and I lost a spike. I should have chosen to go off the path and around when I saw how narrow it was going to get because I became immobilized and needed to call for help since I was hiking alone :( I had all the right gear (spikes, poles, whistle, bell, gloves, etc) it was just an unfortunate weather, marker, and terrain situation I would look out for. I would go back again in better weather tho.

Yellow trail is where it's at...like seriously, amazing trail that has seriously awesome boulders, climbs, tiny trails, summits, a cool adventure. But also it's like a choose your own adventure - although it's clearly marked it's not exactly linear so it's easy to get lost if you're not following along someone else's guided path. I even hit a yellow dead end at one point. Decent views tho all around.

Loved that this was something to actually DO in Shenandoah after stopping at all the overlooks - I had looked this up before my road trip and while I don't remember the actual hike to be strenuous and more of a regular trail for the most part, the summit was gorgeous! Would do again for sure.

Easy in and out - well, it's a nice effort full hike up to the MA parking lot from the falls for sure but it's short and definitely a nice trip that I would couple with another Mt Washington hike or take friends to for a picnic. Cute area!

Let me preface by saying I have been hiking for a few months and went with a more experienced hiker - this was a bust for us. Parking was easy, we started the trail fine, but it was poorly marked and we were quickly lost again and again. We kept finding ourselves following the brook which is along the trail for a bit but it diverts without clear direction. The falls were dried when we went but there were markers leading up to them, and then again, no clear marker as to which way after. We eventually summitted the actual falls (don't do this!) and then went back to the car and headed to Bash Bish for a more clearly marked adventure. The brook and moss were pretty but we spent two hours meandering about, really.

Such a good hike - came across a wolf and a rattlesnake on the hike and deer on the way in. The park rangers at the bottom were super friendly and gave me a map which was nice! Beautiful entrance to the hike and first half mile with wild flowers and a footbridge/brook. Steep ascent in a great way. Lots of rocks, almost feels like a consistent scramble more than a trail. The summit is long, pretty flat, and gorgeous.

Overall it was a good hike - saw six deer (two different groupings, but very up close.) Went on a holiday weekday so it was crowded. I didn't expect the loop to be so man-made, I thought a bit of it maybe, but the extent of it was a bit much and a buzzkill on the nature vibes and felt less like a hike. Plenty of opportunities for views and overlooks which were also a little dampered down by people driving up. Still giving it four stars because I'm simply a hiker who prefers hiking more in the wilderness and that's not the trail's fault. The white trail is well marked, but I only saw a sign for the red trail once and couldn't make my way back to it and did get caught in a loop once and found myself back at the summit again by accident (it was a happy accident - caught the sunset.) Overall, a lovely and short trip away from NYC and a pretty short hike all in all. Nice little spurt.
