Alex Seamount reviewed Ypsilon Lake Trail

Nice little hike but very little as far as views go. The lake as the destination really makes it worthwhile and I will definitely be going back to overnight and explore. The majority of the trail is straight uphill but the hike back is quick due to being downhill.

Labor Day weekend and showed up to the TH @ 9am and was still able to get a spot to park. Road to the TH is rough so keep that in mind. Hiked to Diamond Lake with my 9yr old son and logged 6.1mi total. The trail had a lot of little creeks and one of the most picturesque waterfalls I have seen here in CO. I thought the hike was relatively easy with plenty of mild portions to counter any ascents. Diamond lake is a beautiful lake and loaded with trout. We fly fished for about 90 minutes and caught feisty brookies left and right. The lake also has rainbows and cutties but we didnt catch any. Plenty of room at the lake to enjoy some lunch or peace and quiet. We will definitely be back to hike the upper lakes as well.

Very good front range trail with plenty of beautiful views of the Divide and front range. I paired it with the walker ranch trail for a total of 11.24mi and completed in 5:18. The Canyon trail to the river has lots of changes in ascent/descent with nice views so definitely not a trail you get bored on. I prefer trails with a goal in mind so the river/canyon at the end is perfect and a great place for lunch. Trail was very well maintained and I didnt experience a lot of traffic during my hike.

Did not do the entire trail and completed 6.38mi round trip over the course of 4hrs. Nice views of the ridge and meadows at first then you get into the Aspens and forest. There is water along side the trail for sections which breaks up any monotony. Easy all around trail for what I completed.

Good hike in the front range. Not a lot to it and the N side has very little coverage so be aware. Nice views of the city when youre at the peak but for the most part not a lot to it and kind of bland.

Great front range hike but expect crowds on most days. I did this hike with my 9yr old son and he had no issues but he's also an active hiker. The lookout is an awesome prize for the hike and we both loved the stairs and seeing out across the front range. I clocked 3.5mi in total and started at the TH. Keep in mind the road to get there is heavily trafficked with numerous offroaders and can get rough in sections due to the washboard. A great weekend hike to get outside and enjoy Colorado. We did 3.5mi in 2:29 and that included lunch at the top.

One of the most popular and easier hikes in the park with huge rewards. I clocked 4.33mi round trip to Emerald but that included fly fishing @ Dream lake and wandering around Emerald lake as well. Easy ascent all the way to Emerald and my 9yr old son had no issues. Heavily trafficked but its worth every bit. We did it later in the day so the crowds in the evening had thinned out and made for an even nicer trek. At one point we had Dream all to ourselves which is rare. Good hike for the families and one to add to the list.

Did this hike and included Fern lake. The hike to Cub lake is pretty mild and happened on to a moose in the meadow which was awesome. This would be a great trail for families or anyone with a child as the only difficulty is the mild ascent to Cub Lake from the meadow. After that it is all downhill and the route back to the TH is along the river and tree covered. Total for the Cub lake loop was 6.1mi, if you include Fern Lake it adds up to 11.34mi.

Another great RMNP hike with plenty of views. I started by doing the Cub lake trail then to Fern lake and back out to the parking area between Fern lake TH and Cub lake TH. Overall mileage was 11.34mi and that included wandering around to fly fish @ Fern Lake. Overall a pretty easy hike however the ascent to Fern Lake is constant. Fern Falls is a gorgeous pit stop and even though its a heavily trafficked trail you feel secluded once youre at Fern lake. Lots of water the entire trek which helps break it up. I finished the entire loop in 7:30, which like I said included fly fishing and time at the lake.

One of the more underrated RMNP trails in my opinion. Mild ascent the entire 6.5mi to the lake with some moderate sections thrown in. The majority of the hike is under tree cover until 1.5-2mi from Lawn lake. Exposure is not too much of a concern until you reach the lake and even then you have ample forest around you a couple hundred yards from the lake. Not a heavily trafficked trail as I saw less than 10 people over the course of 13.9 miles in 7hrs. That included photo/snack breaks and fly fishing at Lawn lake and on the Roaring River. The hike runs along the Roaring river most of the way which IMO makes it more enjoyable. Will definitely overnight hike in the next time I do it as I would have preferred to stay for an extra day to explore the area up top.
