Started the loop at Goose Creek TH and hiked CCW in 2 days. No snow at all. We camped somewhere along the McCurdy Trail - campsites near water were totally overrun but plenty of dry camping. No water from Brookside-McCurdy/Ute Creek junction all the way to ~1 mile down Hawkins Pass Trail (assuming you head east on Lake Park toward Tarryall Peak).

This hike is a departure from most of the views I've encountered while backpacking in Colorado. We even saw a bull yearling moose! Would have done it over 2 nights if we had more time because there are so many excellent campsites.

Have done this hike a few times but never in winter. Snowshoes were critical, didn't use microspikes. Also we took a pretty big accidental detour both on the way in and out, so if you're hiking this in the next few days, follow your GPS and not our tracks.

It's already winter up there so bring your layers! Snowed 4 inches the night we camped up by the springs. Also there are free wag bags at the trailhead. Use them! You'll save the Forest Service a lot of unpleasant work.

Did the Four Pass Loop counter-clockwise over four days as a birthday present to myself. Pretty stunning way to celebrate 25 years. Hiked in 1.5 miles to Crater Lake the first night to get a jumpstart on the next day. Plenty of water along the trail (I carried 2L) - no bugs - gets cold at night so bring a 15º bag and pad with good r value. Favorite campsites were a grassy knoll below King Falls in Fravert Basin and the beaver pond 1 mile past Snowmass Lake. SM Lake is beautiful, and also very crowded (but that can provide some humor - I woke up to someone's dog pooping in my campsite). The Elks are teetering on the brink of winter - it snowed lightly every night, adding dramatic striations to the peaks. Even though it was the weekend I didn't find the trail to be overcrowded and was vaguely inspired to try running it sometime in the distant future.

Awesome Class 3 scramble. Tack on Grays afterwards via the saddle. Definitely need a car with high clearance to get to the trailhead. Not much snow left except on the Knife's Edge which actually aids in crossing.
