Aditi G reviewed Marble Fork Trail to Marble Falls

Good Hike. For a 1500 ft elevation gain , this trail had a gentle grade than most other comparable trails with similar elevation gains.

The trail is mostly shaded - about 75% and the falls at the end of the trail is delightful. Tons of water and very pretty. Lots of small and large cascades and falls - be prepared to spend some time here .

There are a lot of thorny plants along the way , so be mindful. Worth the effort on a winter day .

Did the hike in late August.

The hike by itself is a decent workout . The first part of the hike goes thru a forest and is shaded. The first set of climb is easy and then it levels out. Some where around the second waterfall, the hike starts climbing and it is completely exposed . Then comes, the ledge , the tunnel and the chains. Truth be told, reading the reviews, I was extremely scared, but once I got to the ledge I realised there was enough space to walk comfortably on both sides! The tunnel is of course fun! The lake is just a small walk away after this .

The lake is a very very pretty lake and it is easy to loose track of time while at the lake. So it is very important to time yourself at the lake.

We saw three bears during the hike - two near the tunnel and far away and one on the trail. While they didn't trouble us, it is always good and recommended to carry bear spray if the need be. We rented ours from Pats - Unless opened can be returned and deposit of 15$ is returned back .

We also took the Hell Roaring Canyon on the way back - will not really recommend. The trail is steeper in sections and the very very hot day did not make it easier.

The first 2.5 miles to the waterfalls is mostly flat . the trail to the summit then takes a left from the waterfall and starts climbing up. We went in August and it's spring in the Sierras and it's beautiful out there with all the wildflowers !

The trail climbs for a bit flattens out and then goes thru a series of switchbacks to get to an open area. From here , its another climb. What disappointed me a bit , is that there is no board indicating the "summit point" as such. There is another gathering of rocks after the summit, which confused a whole lot of us.

The hike is beautiful - the views come more from the mountain ranges around the peak rather than Tahoe itself (the best vies imo are from the Mt Tallac Hike). It started raining while at the summit and cleared up after a while to reveal rainbows and a clear sky. But it got cold and windy up there.

The one thing to be aware of the is the altitude - starts at around 9000 ft and then goes up. The slope of the hike is pretty gentle thru'out the hike

Good trail and hike. The drive to Pemberton involves a bunch of curvy roads with not much traffic. I reached the parking lot at around 1:15 pm and it was full . The shoulder parking and the overflow parking were also full. Luckily, I got a spot as someone had just finished.

The first lake is right down the the trailhead and offers great views and is busy . The hike then starts going uphill and keeps climbing from there. The first part of the uphill is easy till one reaches the steps and rocks . It gets steep here and slippery too. A downhill hiker slipped and hurt herself badly - so be careful out there. Hiking Poles are a must for the downhill part. After climbing up steadily and then thru switchbacks , the hike kind of levels out before reaching the second lake. The lake is beautiful but go along a bit further for good colors and less crowd.

The third lake is easier to reach about 15 mins from the second. There is a lovely waterfalls on the way to the third. The third is full of boulders strewn over. The third lake is gorgeous and it gets chilly out there , so a jacket is a good idea.

The campsites are located on the other end of the lake near the glacier fed waterfalls. Absolutely lovely spot for the camps.

A hike well worth the effort.

Short and Steep like others have said , but totally worth the climb and the crowds . The views are great .

Only thing to note is : if there are clouds gathered on the peak don't let that deter you . the clouds clear in a hour or so and the views are more interesting.
