One of the best hikes I've been on in SD county. Beautiful scenery. Nice mix of shade and wide open spaces, easy to follow trail (when you get to the water trough, just walk straight until the trail picks up again!), and perfectly placed picnic tables to rest and eat. I appreciated the length -- there was definitely just enough elevation to get the heart pumping (we did the loop clockwise which meant a steeper climb) but not too much, which is good considering the length. Tons of cows in and around the trail, and I even met a horse! Definitely want to watch your step. ;)

Well marked trail. Did the loop clockwise, so sweeping coastal and city views were a great reward for a pretty steep climb to the top of the ridgeline. Falls were bone dry but I would definitely make a point of coming back after some rains to see them in action. Plenty of shade, especially inside the canyon. A bit too crowded for my preference, but I have a feeling early mornings and weekdays might be serene. $10 fee for parking. Nicely shaded picnic facilities at the trailhead.

This was a beautiful trail! Heavily wooded and shaded, with a big meadow right in the middle. Some of the trees were absolutely massive, quite obviously very old. Saw tons of birds. Only a couple other people on the trail, too. Really felt like we were in nature. The drive up from San Diego was scenic in its own right -- you get extremely high elevation getting here. Perfect hike to kick off the fall season.

Pretty, but a security guard at Warner Ranch followed us in his golf card to the edge of the property. Was disconcerting. Wonder if they harass PCT thruhikers?

Saw some cows, birds of prey, and ground squirrels in the valley. Mix of riparian shade, wide open spaces, & rocky desert. Very pleasant. Saw only a few other people hiking. The creek was flowing!

Beautiful, short hike. Enough to get the breath going and clear the head. Parking is a scam.

Lovely trail, and easy to get to. It is extremely popular -- perhaps next time I will start out at sunrise to beat the crowds!
