Aaron Searle reviewed Big Baldy Summit

No snow or mud left on the trails. Bring plenty of water and start early in the day. Decent was tougher than I would expect. Sliding on rocks can be a problem in a few spots.

Excellent hike, with a unrelenting grind for the elevation gain. As others have said, bring plenty of water and food, even if cooler weather, as you'll need it. Highly recommend poles for the decent, as it can be a bit tough on the knees coming down.

No snow, no people on the trail, and great views. Love having a trail all to myself this time of year.

Tiny bit of ice on the upper part of the trail. Snow field just before the lake. Neither need any gear/spikes. Friendly reminder to bring sun screen and bug repellent, and plenty of water.

Trial is dry and very little snow left. only 8 foot piece above the last bridge. Still a little muddy near the saddle. Summit was great views. Remember you need to walk the 1.5 miles up to the trailhead, so round trip is about 7 miles total.

Lower trail is in great shape, however the upper portions have many burned trees. Some trees are blocking the path, as well as 2 spots where recently uprooted trees are a bit sketchy to move around. One is at a water crossing, and there is a 5 foot hole right where the trail was prior to the fire. Point being, be careful, especially if you have little guys traveling with you.

Trail is well marked, easy to follow and well maintained. The views are amazing, and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views.

Upper parking lot is closed, so adds .5 miles from lower lot. No snow to speak of, and only a tiny patch of ice on the last portion of the trail ( past the communication tower ). Don't forget sunscreen, even in the winter, as you are fully exposed for the entire trip.

Great hike, can be accomplished in about 4 hours with older kids / younger teenagers. Not too many bugs, and the fall colors are just starting to change.

Great hike to get away from people. Snow field was only about 70 feet to cross today, and was a bit sketchy, especially on the way back, as the sun had warmed it up. Peak was great, last KM was super steep and a bit rough.

Reached summit with my son today. 1.5 mile hike from parking to the trailhead. Trail is steep and muddy for the first 1/2. Snow and watery trails to the summit. Plan on getting very wet, muddy and tired this time of year.

Attempted with family this weekend. Took the pipeline trail to this trail head ( 3 miles ) and this trail was good for about 3/4 of a mile. Then ice and snow covered the trail. Ended up turning back, and will wait till the snow melts a bit more. Took road back to the car, and that has ice/snow for about 1/4 mile of the 1.5 miles to the parking.

Did this on Thanksgiving day. Not a lot of people around, weather was great and we had a great time. Bring plenty of water & sunscreen, even in the winter time.

4th mile is ugly tiring, so take your time. Was some newly fallen trees, and lots of dead wood around, so be extra careful if backpacking and have a fire.
