Great hike, awesome mountain views of Lemah, Chikamins, and three queens. Camping on the peninsula offers plentiful access to water and amazing views.

Great easy grade trail for first overnights of the season. Good views of Chiwaukams to the west side of the lake.

Busy trail past May, nice short hike up the lower flanks of Bandera. Great shore access along the North side for fishing. Bear grass out in full force, surprising lack of marmots

Nice meandering trail that weaves along the Eastern shore of Baker Lake. Not great lake access, as you are typically 20-50ft above shoreline with a steep drop. Great trail for beginners and children, or to make summit attempts at greater peaks.

A little of everything, meadows (or snow fields), second growth, great views of Big Four, Vesper, Pilchuck, Rainier. Be prepared for the difficulty, especially in early season.

Busy trail in May and beyond, smaller alpine lake, very clear water.

Hard to follow, scrambling at the end.

Start from Olallie State Park parking lot, take the trail nearest the bathroom toward John Wayne/Twin falls. After climbing the first 150ft, merge onto the wide John Wayne trail and head West for 200yds looking for a pink ribbon tied to a tree on the left side. Look for a tree scribed with "Mt WA". Once on the trail, it's much easier to follow.
The actual trail starts steep and is relentless, there are 2-3 500ft flat stretches, the rest is steep. There are 3-4 blow-downs that are fairly easy to navigate, along with a few very easy stream crossings. Once at the top, expect fabulous views of Rainier, McClellan Butte, Mailbox, Glacier Peak, Mt Si, and the tip of Mt Baker if the weather is agreeable. Tough hike, great payoff!

Tough fisherman's trail, especially in waist deep snow. Continue to follow Marten Creek, and you can't get lost.

Despite the fact that this is easily the busiest trail on the i90 corridor, Mount Si continues to offer awesome early & late season hiking with a 3K+ elevation gain easily accessible to Seattle. Start very early (6am or earlier) or go on a week day to avoid massive crowds. Great challenging hike that offers fantastic views and a decent little scramble opportunity in good weather.

Blow downs on road from winter storms add 2.5 miles RT to Mason Lake. I would imagine they'd clear these by May, however, it'll take until June for the trail to melt out. About 2/3 up when you hit the boulder fields the snow is in poor conditions causing post holing waist deep, be prepared.
Lake is frozen over like most alpine lakes in March, saw 12 people on trail and a few headed up to Defiance.

Busy Saturday, rained, snowed, and then cleared at the lake and for the hike down. All water crossings were very manageable, albeit muddy with a few blow downs that required average footwork. No spikes of poles and zero post holing.

Aaron Brengle reviewed Lake Serene Trail

Haven't been up here for 2 years, way too crowded during the summer months, my wife's first time and first snow hike. Trail had 3-4 hard, large blow-downs over the trail, but passible. Snow started at the avvy fields up above the switchbacks, only about .75 miles worth leading to the lake. Lake was mostly frozen and a few avalanches were heard coming down Index. Wet, cold, but always beautiful, the wife wants to go back when it's summer and enjoy the serenity of Serene.
