Merk - reviewed Neahkahnie Mountain (Northern Approach)

Completed on 8/26 on a hot sunny day
A lot of overgrowth on the first mile starting from North Trailhead. Moderately steep climb for most of the trail up to the summit. A lot of roots and loose dirt on trail but still safe. You can scramble up the peak near the end or take a longer less steep trail around to the top. Great views and one of the best coast trails I've been on. The hike down to the South Trailhead was quick. less overgrown, and less exposed to sun. I took the highway from South Trailhead to North Trailhead. There is a pedestrian walkway for most of the walk but a section with no walkway that can be somewhat sketchy since your so close to the road.

Tons of people at around 4pm. I did the trail as a warmup to Lassen Peak. Pretty moderate trail if you're in decent shape but saw a lot of tourists hung up on the steep section for quite a while. The falls were pretty cool and a trail leads to the bottom for a much better and close view. It's a scramble to the bottom but not too dangerous.

    Completed on 8/19 near sunset
Good workout for only being 2.5 miles to the top. Took me about 1 hour 20minutes to the top. If you're not in shape or don't hike often your probably looking at 2-3hours up. Trail was maintained very well all the way to the top. Basically no snow to hike through except a small patch near the very end on a level surface. Climb the rocks to the true summit and take in a full view of the surrounding area. Too much forest fire smoke to see much past the park, No Shasta views.

The trail was completely snow free. The first 3/4 of the trail is pretty level/moderate with a ton of small waterfalls and river views. Wildflowers are out like crazy right now. The first lake you come across has a great view of Broken Top reflecting if low wind. Stay on the trail to continue up a steep portion that leads to an upper viewpoint with unobstructed views of Broken Top and South Sister. The view is AMAZING and well worth the steep hike of the last section. Green Lake is next to the first lake you see, and is not the final stopping point of the trail. Green Lake offers an incredible view of South Sister. One of the best hikes in the state

Amazing views from Sparks Lake. You don't even need to hike to see South Sister looming over the lake. Tons of people on the water and around the lake on a weekend in July. Trail take you around the area and offers multiple views of Sparks Lake, South Sister, and Broken Top. A must do if in the area.

You can hike up to the hut without any snow now. Great view from the hut and worth the steep hike up. Amazing purple wildflowers on both sides hiking up the mountain. Snow starts after the hut if you want to venture further. Still skiing and snowboarding up there as well

Took this trail July 22 around sunset. We were the last ones of the short .4 mile one way trail. A lot of mosquitoes from the beginning and only got worse once reaching the upper lookout. There is a steep rope trail leading to the bottom of the falls. You can access this trail through a whole in the Upper Lookout Gate. Worth the short hike down to get a view from the bottom of the falls and pool. Bug spray would be useful but very easy trail with a few uphill stair portions. One of the better waterfalls in Oregon

Great hike that included 360 degree views of the whole Crater Lake area. Sign at trailhead say 2.5miles to the top. The first half mile has a few spots with snow but besides that the rest of the trail is snow free. Not too hard of a hike for someone in decent shape but it's not easy for the average tourist. There is a lookout structure at the top which was closed. Went up in the evening and saw a handful of other groups. Definitely recommended when visiting Crater Lake. The entire Rim Dr is now open also.

If you plan to go on a weekend it would be wise to arrive before 9. I arrived around 9:15AM and was able to find parking about a mile down the road off to the side with many others. Pretty well groomed trail and lots of other hikers. Stopped at Mirror Lake and did the loop which is a little less than a half mile. Continued up to TD&H peak and the crowd thinned out. Take a left at the large rock pile near the top. AMAZING view of Hood and was able to see St. Helens, Rainier, Adams, and Jefferson on a clear day. Seriously amazing view of Hood. If you appreciate the mountains this is a must hike. Pretty moderate hike, slightly steep but nothing crazy. Once at the top, you can head past the crowds and a trail continues around the "rim" of the mountain for more solitude and views.

Got to the trailhead around 8:30am on a Sunday. Only 5 other cars there but by 11 when I was done, the "lot" was full. Nicely groomed and steady trail. Keep walking around the rim of the pool to find the trail to the bottom. Pretty steep but not terrible and very doable for most people. Definitely worth it. Good trail but very busy

Took this trail on 6/30. Trailhead across the road from Sparks Lake right off Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Fall Creek Falls on your right about .5 miles into the trail. Hit snow shortly after the falls along with A LOT of mosquitoes near the falls. Trail gains more compact snow the further you go. Pretty easy to get off trail, but it follows the river most of the way if you get lost. Didn't have mine but micro spikes are recommended until more snow melts.

Rough drive to trailhead, baseball size rocks on road for final 2 miles. Took it slow and made it in my Toyota Camry though. It was a tough last mile but good views of Three Sisters and Mt. Washington. Kind of a bummer we couldn't go up the tower. Warning sign not to go up tower and ranger on duty at the top just a heads up.
