Beautiful walk along the AT. Great views to the south and east northeast from the rock outcrop at the top. See Atlanta to the south on a clear day if you look hard enough.

Easy hike on the AT. Mountains in every direction as far as the eye can see. My favorite mountaintop hike for sure.

Most pristine stream I've been able to find without bushwhacking for a few hours. Worth the trip.

It's been a while since I was there but remember it fondly. Easy hike for everyone. Great views south, east and Ridgepole mt. to the west. Don't miss the first overlook to the east. Its on a short side trail on the left. Pair it with the short hike to the tower on Albert mt. up the road for fantastic 360 degree views.

Short, steady uphill walk along a well graded roadbed to the top. Pretty much a "locals only" spot. Fantastic views all around. Tower is still open as long as the vandals don't come back.

We parked at tray gap so nowhere near the walk. Typical AT scenery. Good lookout to the north near the summit. Top view to the south is about like it is elsewhere on this section through GA.

Trail stops at the top of the falls. Then just scramble down the exposed roots to the bottom. The creek to the upper falls must be forded unless your balance is good. Then again, a good rain might wash that log away.

Good trail. Lightly used and clean. Most of the trail along the river was either high on a bluff or out of sight of the river so it was a bit boring. The section along dick's creek was great though.

Nice quiet trail through the Russell woods. The falls were nice. Azaleas were in full bloom so that was a treat.

West side of the lake wasn't spectacular. Too close to the rec area w/ a section down the access road to the dam. The trail below the spillway to the footbridge was overgrown w/ privet, kudzu and poison oak. The east side was a pleasant, well graded and maintained trail. Stayed along the lake most of the way w/ lots of turtles and waterfowl.

Nice easy trail. Well kept w/ lots of birds at the "lake".
Where I'm from they're called ponds. Found myself in Gainesville w/ time to kill so...

TRASH EVERYWHERE. It is definitely overcrowded and in desperate need of attention. I spend a lot of time here since it's only a five minute walk from the house and watch it deteriorate almost daily. I have noticed some packing out other's trash which is great but the disrespect shown by a few ruins the experience for everyone who cares. BTW, don't drink the water unless you want to end up in the hospital spewing from both ends. I've noticed a few ill-prepared individuals gulping it down. Some of the things I've found in that creek... No. That being said, the scenery is worth the walk. Just be prepared for the rough descent to the base of the falls.

Despite the parking area being half full (it's a big parking area) there's usually only a few people to be seen. Look for the skyline of Atlanta, Stone mountain and Kennesaw mt to the south on a clear day. The climb up to the rock face is a good workout. Parts of the trail are washed badly but isn't a real issue. Some of the best views of the southern slope of the Blue Ridge from Mt. Oglethorpe near Jasper to well into North Carolina to the northeast can be had from here.
