Todd Rossi reviewed Misery Ridge and Summit Trail Loop

Only did half of this (footbridge to summit & back) due to time, but a threat hike! Not for the inexperienced or out of shape. Will come back to finish this this and other again soon.

Completed this from the top down with our two Danes. A little narrow in places for two way traffic but overall a great trail. Not a huge amount of traffic for a late summer Saturday. Got about half way down before a thunderstorm rolled in and started dumping on us. Lightning, thunder, hail, and rain made this “fun” with the dogs. Will be back to do this bottom to top and allow some time to enjoy the lakes on the trail.

Parked near the camp grounds and walked the little crater trail then on to the "hot springs". Nice view of the large obsidian flow south of the lake from the little crater trail. Continued on along the lake trail to the "hot springs" past a cool pumice and obsidian flow. A couple of wet marshy areas along the way had some bugs but not too bad. The "hot springs" were really one or two holes dug into the grassy shoreline, and not what we were expecting. Great views, beautiful lake, and a very easy trail at least on the east side. Would have done the entire lake lol but the kids were burnt out for our previous days trips.

Ride our bikes from Sunriver up Cottonwood Drive to get here. Recommend mountain bikes or road bikes but no BMX or beach cruisers as it is almost all uphill getting there. If you've been in any caves in the last 10 years you will be screened for white nose fungus that kills bats. Bring a good lantern or flashlight that will last for a 2 mile walk through a dark cave ($5 rental onsite). It's a constant 42 degrees inside, so if you get cold easily bring a light coat or fleece. You will also need a Recreation pass or the Interagency National Park pass is accepted also.
