Very easy well maintained 1.25 mile (one way) trail. To get to the trail cross the Pleasant Valley road bridge from the Visitor center. Beautiful hike along the South Fork of the Yuba River.

I hiked this trail on June 22, 2013 and the water was getting very low and in some areas mostly pools and a small trickle. Early morning is best, no water on trail so be sure to bring plenty. The restrooms and parking were very accommodating and clean. There is a second smaller falls on the north trail, which had a bench and plenty of shade. Was a little disappointed in the main falls that it is very difficult to get a 'Kodak' moment by going up the creek to the falls, only the wooden overlook gives you the best view. Great trail for kids and scouts, just gets a little busy in the summer.

Great historic site to bring youth and youth groups to teach about the geology of the earth, plants and rocks. GREAT rock shop, great family day trip.

This is a fun and moderate hike from Bothe-Napa SP, past the Pioneer Cemetery to the Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park. Great day hike for families with a really cool working mill that the docents have really put a lot of work and effort into restoring to it's original state.

We camped at D.L. Bliss campsite on the west shore of Lake Tahoe north of Hwy 50 just off Hwy 89. We canoed 10 miles (round trip) from D.L. Bliss Campground into Emerald Bay, around Fannette Island, past VIKINGSHOLM and that whole area by canoe is amazingly beautiful. Make sure to get your reservations at D.L. Bliss campground early because it is a very popular campground in the summer.

WOW... what a great lesson in history from the museum and old town of North Bloomfield, CA to the Malakoff 'Diggins Loop Trail' we really enjoyed all the places they had to learn about the GOLD RUSH! Great place to take the kids.

INCREDIBLE hike! Just absolutely BEAUTIFUL views all along this trail. This is also a part of the PACIFIC CREST TRAIL system.
You can take this trail as far back into Desolation Wilderness as you are willing to hike.
GREAT Day Trip or you can go to Canada or Mexico from here.

Very easy hike along Caples Lake but gets a little more difficult as you ascend up to Emigrant Lake. Beautiful country, small water falls along the way. 7 miles round trip.

This was a very interesting trail. We did this back in 1979 and at the beginning of the trail, you have to hike over a lot of granite rocks and the trail is hard to find and follow. I don't know if it's changed much since then, but the accent to the top of Horsetail Falls was incredibly beautiful. And once you get to the top you follow the river and are met by the beauty of Ropi Lake. We were young and anxious and the rocks were pretty icy.

One of the best bike rides in the Sacramento / Fair Oaks area. The American River Bike Trail. You can start at Discovery Park and end at Natomas Dam and view the fish hatchery there. A great day hike or bike.

What a great little hike. 4 miles one way. The upper-longer trail is easier than the lower-shorter trail. Pretty moderate hike, a few challenging hills but the falls is well worth the trip. There is a really nice viewing platform for great pictures. If you wish to swim in the falls river, you must go past the platform and past the fenced cliff overhang. Once up river there are a few nice campsites for small groups.
