This trail climbs Bukit Tabur Extreme, the easternmost of the Klang Gate Quartz Ridge. There are apparently two routes to the peak, one from the west, starting from the end of Jalan K5 near Sunway Rydgeway at Melawati, and the other from the east, staring from Kemensah on Jalan Zooview. The route from the west is the same one that leads to Tabur Far East. Coming from Jalan Zooview, you will see on the left a small tarmac road, then a dirt track, then another small tarmac road (with a sign saying Orang Asli settlement) and then another dirt track.  The correct path is the first dirt track. Take the first dirt track, and it will lead up the ridge. There will be a lone hut with a zinc roof along the way. The path splits into two at this point - take a right and continue uphill. The path basically goes parallel to the ridge westwards, on the north side of the peaks. Both the left and right paths continue further to the next peaks eastward and westward respectively.    Show more

#7 - Gunung Besar Hantu
Ampang, Selangor, Malaysia

Gunung Besar Hantu is the highest mountain in Negeri Sembilan, but as far as tall mountains in Malaysia go, at 1462m, Besar Hantu is relatively low.  All other states, apart from Perlis, Penang, Melaka and Johor, claim loftier peaks with even Kedah having as its tallest peak a 1862m mountain called Bukit Bintang.  Regardless, Besar Hantu is a difficult climb. Even getting to the mountain is quite a challenge. It's located in Jelubu district on the northern extreme of Negeri Sembilan, right on the border between the state and Pahang. If you want to avoid the broken roads and landslides, drive to Kampung Ulu Langat and continue north. As you pass Kampung Dusun Tua turn right into Sungai Lui road.  At the end of the road, at Simpang Peres, take a left turning off the T-junction and drive across the border via Genting Peres.  It's a very scenic but wildly twisty road that hugs one side of the Lui river valley between high mountains. Genting Peres is a narrow mountain pass cutting through the mountain range that divides Selangor from Negeri Sembilan.  Once in Negeri, continue along the road, and follow the Kongkoi river down to Kampung Kongkol then turn left at the junction into road N25. Drive on this road for 6 km until you reach Kampung Chennah (the destination.) At Kampung Chennah, you can pre-arrange for 4x4 transportation to the mountain trailhead. When you arrive at the Forest reserve headquarters, you have to register and buy entrance passes. There are two starting points for the hike to Besar Hantu.  The first one starts along the small road.  The other one starts at the waterfall (Lata Kijang) which is situated at the end of the small road.Show more
