I did like the hike a lot It’s 1.5 hours hike 1/2 is up hills Then I took a boat back I did not walk back

Amazing trail! Difficult as it is mostly all uphill and has some steep sections, but it’s dotted with beautiful overlooks and the trail is very well maintained. One of the coolest trails I’ve been on, and certainly one of the best Penang has to offer!

Super fun and challenging hike. They say the trail is “closed” and it has been marked this way for years....note that the trails is still easily accessible and open. Just keep going. There a couple trees to hop over and some bridges with boards missing that you can easily scramble across. The entire hike is accessible and fun. There are little shops on the beach to get refreshments part way through, too!

Awesome hike here. Moderately difficult, feels like you are either going up or down with very little “flat” hiking. That said, it’s really a fun hike with great trail conditions. The trail is open and the beach is really beautiful. If you go about 300m up the beach there is an cool little turtle sanctuary to check out.

Very easy walk. I was able to see a lot of animals such as silver leaf monkey, lots of birds, centipede, etc.

Zero maintenance on this otherwise great trail and facilities. What a shame Perhilitan. Get out of your hammocks and grab a chainsaw

Easy hiking

WARNING: the trail to monkey beach is still, even after 2 years, only accessible till the USM research station. Monkey beach itself is accessible, vendors are present (at least in weekends), and you can swim at this beach. From the boat, the garbage wasn’t evident on the beach/waterline. Looked clean (might be different around the vendor’s stalls). We opted to start at the entrance, hike to Kerachut, took a boat to drop us off at USM, and hiked back to the entrance. This trail is very easy but isn’t that nice as Kerachut. Partial views on the ocean, lots of stairs going a bit up and down again.

Fairly easy hike if weather is dry. Nice and quiet environment. Less crowded on weekdays. The route is a combination of concrete steps and packed earth or mud (dry or wet weather). The concrete is in many places washed out by previous rainfall. At the end of the trail, at Turtle Beach, you can visit the turtle hatchery for free. Opt to continue walking to Teluk Kampi or cross the beach and loop back towards the same trail. Or you can take a speedboat at the pier to Monkey Beach / USM research station / park entrance (fee 40-50 MYR pp, to be requested/negotiated before starting, no cell phone coverage at Kerachut Beach).

Took us just under 2 hours to complete. Hard stair section at the beginning and at the end, with a few scrambles in some places. The middle section of the trail was pretty flat and quite pleasant. Would recommend this route up Penang Hill.

The stairs are a great workout.

Gotta be careful of moving vehicles and stay on the side. Really steep and it was one workout session. At the top it's rather crowded. Since trail is very steep, gotta walk backwards at some point when coming back or you can walk zig-zag to prevent knees from hurting.

Very exciting and challenging esp the initial part of it.. Unable to reach penang hill due to the limited time I had.. Will go up till penang hill on my next visit to penang

I came down from the hill this way and I don't think I'd consider going up from here. It's almost all stairs and paved walkways. Not exactly a hike. It is tough though, if that's what you're after. Your knees should be in good form, and have plenty of water. You're going to need it.

Great trail! Recommended over the heritage trail unless you like suffering and your knees are in outstanding condition (mine are not). Straightforward route. Went up Moongate and came out from Heritage Trail---save all the stairs for going down. Total time in and out was 3.30 mins for 11+ kilometers. Your mileage may vary.

Can walk to a clean beach.
