Nice quick trail in the woods with a river over look..... very small forest preserve but nice place to get out for a little while. Canoe access on the I&M canal and shore access for fishing on the river. Some parts with steeper elevation but overall very easy hike.

Nice wide trails, dog friendly (please pick up after them) great views and plenty of wild life. Moderate terrain. Only downfall for me is no dogs allowed on the trails in winter when cross country skiing is going on. Too bad for me:(

Great place to train for long distance hikes, but not technical. Bug spray/lotion is a must between miles 4 - 7 from the parking lot off Bluff rd. to the Des Plaines River outlook because the mosquitoes will cover you if you haven’t applied anything. I think miles 7 - 2 (going counterclockwise/NE from the Bluff rd lot) has the best scenery.

Nice trail!

really nice

Only did 2 1/2 miles but very beautiful and very shaded

Pretty easy walk. Love the water fall.

I absolutely love hiking here, but the people are absolute slobs. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and I brought my kids there yesterday and they were quite upset about the MASSIVE amount of garbage everywhere. They need to implement some serious litter prevention. Ban all disposable water bottles being the first, I’ve never seen so much trash at a park like this. It’s depressing.

Good trail to test out pack load/equipment. Bring a hat or sunblock for there isn’t much shading. It’s a pretty busy loop, but everyone is polite and there’s room for everyone.

This would be such a fun beginner trail running path, but a large portion is closed for several months and August had just way too many spiderwebs, biting bugs and loud cicadas for now. I’d suggest waiting for a less humid day to enjoy this beautiful trail.

I was pleasantly surprised with Starved Rock. It is awesome that all of the trails connect and you can decide what paths to take and loop all over. The canyons were sweet and picturesque.
It was an absolute zoo when we finished at 11am. Totally nuts. Would recommend getting there as early as possible to avoid crowds. We got there at 8am.
Do go hike, it's the best the area has to offer.

Always a treat to hike here in the Woods

"Main Trail" is 9.5 mile long with beautiful long trees and some water bodies along the route. scenic views mentioned on trail map arent really scenic. water is all dried out. trail roads clearly marked. no water fountain in middle of trail. restrooms every 3 miles almost. horse back riding possible.

beautiful scenery. and lovely people surround this hidden gem of a lake

Wear bug spray. I think I fed half the mosquito population of Palos on our walk!

Awesome trail! Going back soon to explore more of the park. Beautiful views, beautiful waterfalls and an excellent place to explore. Can't wait to go back!

Fun on a bike . The downhills after the climbs are like rollercoaster rides.

A good find in southern Illinois! Pleasantly surprised.

Nice steep hills. Outer loop of the trail is not maintained. I’m 5’8 and the weeds were taller than me. Easy trail for a warm up

Saw wildlife- turtles, chipmunks, butterflies, birds. A peaceful and minimally challenging walk with sculptures and beautiful scenery.

You will not get bored running here if you like nature.

This place is beautiful. They do a great job managing for removal of invasive plants.

The trails get flooded in Spring and after rains. Mosquitoes can be intense especially near sections of the river.

There are historic settler cabins on the site.

Terrain is mostly flat with well maintained trails so it’s an easier hike.

In Autumn the sugar maples paint the sky yellow. In Spring the doing ephemeral paint the ground with varying waves of color.

Trail is nice. It’s short and easy to do. Wood chips go all the way around the lake.

That place is so beautiful I loved

About tennis ball spiders crawling all over you and your stuff so you cannot stay still for too long. There were also millions of them.

I lost my keys to a Chrysler vehicle on Friday the 13, anyone finds them please contact the park rangers thank you.

I use this trail to get some gravel miles in when palos singletrack is too soft. Some decent climbs and nice scenery. Trails are also groomed for cross country skiing in the winter when there's enough snow.

Trail surface: grass and mud, have had a lot of rain this year. Bugs: we did the three mile Outer Loop and almost turned back due to swarms of mosquitoes, also found ticks on me and my husband when we got home. Scenery: Really beautiful, but not much variation, wooded areas, grassy areas, wood bridges and river. Elevation gain: even though map claims some elevation feels essential flat. Amenities: Visitor Center very nice, restrooms very clean, staff very friendly, drinking fountain outside building, ample parking. Overall a lovely hike but mosquitoes a huge problem.

The trail itself is very challenging and wonderfully rustic. From an aesthetic point, it’s great! I had a hard time finding the loop and ended up turning around because the mosquitos were absolutely awful. I even sprayed myself on the trail but nothing worked. I would love to try and explore this trail some more, but the bugs might keep me away

Lots of varied foliage and scenery. Peaceful. Will definitely do again.
