Fairly easy, well trafficked even in winter. Nice views looking up! Some small streams to cross and one spot with scrambling in the winter. Best spots are after the lake when it gets quiet!

Did this hike in mid December and it was great- some icy patches along the way at the time but navigable in hiking shoes alone. Beautiful view from the top of the falls!

Pleasant easy walk in the winter, when there are few visitors. beautiful forest.

It got harder towards the end and the last portion was completely covered in snow. Overall great hike with multiple waterfall views. We just did this today and loved it. You also get multiple AMAZING views of Wowona Dome throughout the whole hike. We only saw one couple on the hike the entire time. Would definitely recommend!

Gorgeous hike, it wasn’t difficult at all. Lots to see, the beauty is breathtaking!!

We went up to Nevada falls via the Mist Trail and then looped back down the John Muir switchbacks. If you like to hike you must do this - it’s beautiful and rewarding. I love this hike. We went when the falls were just thundering and we were soaked so be prepared for that possibility depending on how Vernal falls is running. If you’re in Yosemite and have not done this hike just do it you will not regret it! Spectacular views.

Amazing, challenging hike with breathtaking views of the valley from Cloud's Rest. The climb at the beginning is a bit of a gut buster and I had a little trouble following the trail when I got to one of the boulder fields on the way up, but not on the way down. The reason to do this hike, though, is for the final half mile or so up the narrow spine of rock to Cloud's Rest, with a 2,000+ foot drop on either side of a trail just a few feet wide. Once at the peak, it is pretty incredible to look down upon Half Dome and Yosemite Valley.

Really fast if you know what you are doing.

JM trail was closed so we couldn't do the loop in mid october. Ended up doing out and back on the mist, still a great hike. Definitely one of the more popular trails in the valley, so be prepared for lots of traffic on trail.

Did this in 2016. Was beautiful and well worth it.

We did this hike in mid-December. While cold on the valley floor, we quickly warmed up with both the elevation gain and increased exposure to the sun. Really busy at the base of the hike but thins out as different path options are made available. Beautiful views of the valley and two legendary waterfalls. Great places to stop for lunch or enjoy a beer. Easy to follow, although we weren't able to do the full loop due to trail closures from rockfall risk.

From Agnew Meadows we took the River Trail and stopped at the fire pit for the night. The next day we met up where the JMT and PTC connect at the breath taking, picturesque 1000 is. lake. We met a ranger who checked our permits and warned us of a bear in the area. We got there early and spent the day sunning, wading in the chilly water and attempted to catch dinner. We passed 2 hikers from the day before who caught 13. No fish dinner for us. The next morning we finished the trail of prescious gems with garnet, emerald a ruby lake. I would do this hike every summer but there are many...way to many amazing places to see in the Sierras. I did this hike with my friend Curry Aug. 2017
My best hiking photos are from this trip.

Challenging hike but the views are worth it. I'd definitely like to check it out in the Spring. Trail got pretty busy on the way down so start early.

Awesome trail that is almost completely uphill out and downhill back. This is a do not miss hike when in Yosemite. The views get better and better as you go. Completed it over New Years so it was a little icy on the stairs by the top of the falls but there is a little side route to avoid the ice if you need.

beautiful fall. very short and worth doing with kids

lovely easy hike, not much of a lake but the views and that forest is totally worth it.

Fairly easy, though there is a paved road side and an unpaved side that’s a little more challenging.

Great views of half dome. Areas to stop and throw rocks in the water, if that’s of interest. Decent picnic type hike. Still open and clear in the winter.

Park at north pines camp ground if you can. There’s also a shuttle stop if you are able to get on the shuttle.

The most rewarding part is the last half mile! Really gets your heart going and the view was phenomenal. Cell service was also surprisingly great since I was able to facetime my parents at the top lol

Great views of a different part of Yosemite and away from the big crowds. The trail is dotted with small waterfalls. The trip to the top and back was about 8.8 miles, so plan your day accordingly. Since it's out and back, you can turn around at any point. I'm glad I brought a heavy jacket. It got pretty cold at the top. We have no issues with Mountain lions or bugs. There was no snow either, even though it was mid December. I don't think I would try the steep parts of the trail when it's icy. Great day on the trail.

Hard not to give every hike in Yosemite 5 stars, this is a super easy short hike but great to see lower Yosemite falls, we did this back in October so the falls were just a trickle but beautiful regardless

Just beautiful. Not many people in the winter months, at least, so a peaceful walk alongside the river. Stunning rock scapes and a scenic bridge over the river at the half way point. The mirror image was worth everything!

Parts of the Mist trail are closed, detouring you to John Muir trail. It makes it longer by ~2.5 but completely with it. Great views of upper Yosemite Falls as you hike up John Muir trail

Make sure you rock scramble to the left of the Falls. There you can get away from some the crowds as well as see the Yosemite waterfall pool at the bottom. It’s a perfect snack or picnic stop with the mist hitting you.

We didn't park at the correct trail head so we added an extra mile but besides that, the trail is paved and very beautiful. It just rained this morning (dec 18th) so the flow was strong!

It was hard to find the path sometimes but it was amazing hike.

The best hike I've done in a long time. the views were absolutely incredible. The elevation gain isnt bad and the hike is just long enough for a nice full day of hiking.

Woah! Great hike, straight up at some points but worth it. Some ice on the steps toward the top. Amazing views, wonderful waterfall and less than 10 people!

My girlfriend and I did this hike on Sunday (12/2) after having camped in the Upper Pines Campground the night before.

After watching sunrise at Tunnel View and exploring the Yosemite Valley Village, we made the short drive over to the small parking lot closest to the trail. We began our trek around 11:30 am and arrived back at our car around 4 pm.

From the very beginning of our hike it was incredibly icy. We saw a multitude of "tourists" attempting to climb the steep walkway leading to the Vernal Footbridge in nothing more than sneakers and other forms of unseasonable footwear. However, after this point we saw only three or four other groups of hikers on our way up Nevada Falls, all adequately prepared to take on the elements.

The initial staircase to the top of Vernal Falls wasn't too frozen over, until the very end, and that's when it became very slick. Luckily, my girlfriend and I were wearing our Yaktrax and that allowed us to maneuver our way up the stairs without issue.

Although neither one of the falls were gushing (as they do in the spring and summer) enough to give us the spray that The Mist Trail gets its namesake, it was probably for the best, as the vast majority of the trail was in the shade and I don't think it got above freezing. However, that didn't deter us from thoroughly enjoying this majestic hike with the stark contrast of sunshine reflecting off granite rocks against the fresh coat of snow on the shaded riverbank; which made for some magnificent photography opportunities!

This hike definitely lived up to the hype!

Awesome views. Great way to take in Yosemite Valley.
