Steep parts with the 600 steps, which also gets pretty slippery. Wear a rain jacket, pack a protein-filled lunch, and bring at *least* 24 oz of water per person. I would say it’s on the harder end of moderate.

Great hike not too bad even with 12 and 8 year.. lots of traffic though.. must do hike

A great first hike in Yosemite, was a little more difficult than anticipated...we went up Mist Trail and down John Muir (which I recommend because the views are UNREAL and it's less crowded). The MT was cool but very crowded with reckless people...infant babies, flip flops on slippery surfaces...just very unnerving. But if you can wake up early enough to beat the crowd it will be much more enjoyable. You will get wet! I recommend early summer when the falls are full and flowing.

Altamente recomendable

I did this two days ago. Although grueling on the way up, humbling along the way, mesmerizing at the top!
I will do this again!

Incredible hike! I struggled getting to the top, cramping and sore muscles going up. Very wet, so be careful of slippery rocks. The falls are amazing and breathtaking!

Hiked 4.11.18 - stunning hike!! more on the hard side of moderate for sure with all the stairs and boulders, but worth it at the top!! Plenty of runoff so bring waterproof shoes or shoes you won't mind getting wet and dirty. Take your time on the wet rocks - they are so slippery! I was so thankful I thought to bring a poncho as the mist from Vernal Falls was BRUTAL. Again, WORTH IT ALL- absolutely breathtaking views!

Wow. I have hiked around the world and seen the worlds largest waterfalls but this place is truly special! Just did it 4/8/18 after heavy flooding in the Yosemite valley and vernal falls was PUMPING. It was absolutely brutal to walk up the steps getting beat in the face with mist. Additionally, most people stopped well before Nevada Falls (I think because they couldn't find the trail). Keep on going for an additional treat. What a spectacular spot. Much better than Yosemite falls!

Great hike. Incredible views. Bring plenty of water and snacks as you will need it. Hiked it twice. Both times in May, a year a part, not too cold nor too hot.

I've done this hike many times since I was 15. It's always a fun hike but now it sucks that you must have a permit. It used to be a beautiful hike with a lot of scenery and lots of water and water falls now there's minimal water which is sad. Still pretty and enjoyable for those who never been there. Hardest part might be the cables at the top. The whole trail there is maintained and easy with moderate hills here and there. A lot of ppl like to start at 5am but we always leave at 9am and return by 6pm with plenty of time to enjoy the whole hike. Bring snacks, food and water if you've never done this long of a hike before. There's restrooms at little Yosemite and there's a guard at the entrance of the trail there checking permits so make sure you have them or you won't be able to continue. There's shaded parts along the trail which makes it nice during summer.

Great hike. Be aware though that the Mist Trail is primarily steps, and lots of them. We took the longer route back to avoid going down the wet stairs and it was really nice. The John Muir loop was still closed from Nevada Falls.

The hike up to the falls was extremely easy but the view of the falls coming down the cliffs was spectacular. Would highly recommend for all ages. I suggest parking on the road slightly past the trail because it was extremely hard to find a parking spot. Great choice for a first day and super refreshing to feel the most from the falls spraying up at you. *bring a poncho or rain jacket if you do not want to get wet.

A nice easy trail if that is what you are looking for, and spectacular falls. Good for the whole family, best in the springtime.

One of the hardest hikes I've done in my life, and worth every moment. Wow!

This was one of the most rewarding hikes I have ever been on. There was always a breathtaking view at every turn. The trail was very congested and people very friendly. I would highly suggest hiking shoes and cool clothing. You are going to sweat and get exhausted from the steep sections on the hike. I would rate this as a hard to moderate hike. Footing on some sections was sketchy. Very worth heading to the top of Nevada falls. Bring water and snacks. We were not able to make the loop once at the top because the trail was closed.

Gorgeous views of the waterfalls, lots of hikers going up and down and please wear proper shoes /clothing as the trial contains both water and mist.

Quick and easy trail. 100% worth the time and effort. You can get soaked on a hot day if you like, or just get some awesome photos of the base of the fall

This trail has some amazing views of Yosemite falls! Unfortunately, the trail is currently closed after inspiration point and you hit a tricky patch of snow about halfway through and then a few more near inspiration point. It took us about two hours to get to inspiration point and maybe an hour and a half to get back including lunch! We started the hike around 9:30 and the trails weren't as busy and the snow pack was easier to get through before it started melting and got slippery.

Great trail with nice views. Could only make it up to the 5th switch back from the Mist Trail as the next few switch backs were really icy (bring your Yaktraks).

I went on March 19 and it was a delight, with snow still on the ground. Slippery in parts of the paved trail, so it’s better sometimes to go off the trail just a little bit and clamber up and down. Excellent atmosphere, filled with spray from the falls and the roar of the water when you get to the top of the trail.

Lots of switch backs, my first trail that included significant elevation gain.
Fantastic views, well worth it!
*no bus service going down in winter season

Awesome Trail , went with my 7 yr old. it was so icy and dangerous when we went.
My son loves it , but i had to slide down to the trail on the ice yet it was Fantastic

Short and sweet, just the way it was meant to be. Pretty cool in the rain. They’re going to be renovating the trail soon, to make it more accessible and crowd-friendly, better bathrooms, better parking lot, etc.

Picturesque hike! Wow.

During snowy conditions, Yaktrax shoe chains are definitely worth it, as it gets pretty icy! You can by them for ~ $25 in the shop in Curry Village.

Hands down my favorite hike I’ve ever had. If you haven’t you should.

This was a great trail would definitely recommend it.

I’ve done this hike without snow & ice & its totally different. Still a great hike, but icy/snowy & slippery in spots. Especially past the base of Vernal Falls. See pics :)

Lots of snow and ice on the trail today. (3/11/18) Trekking poles are a must! But I’m pretty uncomfortable on snow/ice... Also, the trail is closed after Inspiration Point (~3miles up) right now. I only made it about 2 miles up.
