Amazing, challenging hike with breathtaking views of the valley from Cloud's Rest. The climb at the beginning is a bit of a gut buster and I had a little trouble following the trail when I got to one of the boulder fields on the way up, but not on the way down. The reason to do this hike, though, is for the final half mile or so up the narrow spine of rock to Cloud's Rest, with a 2,000+ foot drop on either side of a trail just a few feet wide. Once at the peak, it is pretty incredible to look down upon Half Dome and Yosemite Valley.

Amazing view, little danger the road, was frozen

The most rewarding part is the last half mile! Really gets your heart going and the view was phenomenal. Cell service was also surprisingly great since I was able to facetime my parents at the top lol

Awesome trail!!! If you plan well, go during a full moon. The light of the moon reflects off the granite mountains and lights up the entire area. For the most part the trail is well distinguished however there are two spots where the trial is on granite rocks with no trial marks. Walked trail late September and there was minimal water running in streams so bring plenty of you plan on hiking at that time. But plenty of water at end of hike at the lakes.

Fantastic trail. Took my gf on her first backpack in November and couldn’t ask for a better trail for a first trip. Definitely glad we did glacier point to tunnel view parking, as opposed to the other way around.

Camped one evening at Dewey point although maybe next time, I think we’d post up at Crocker instead. Didn’t see another person on the trail past Taft point.

Don’t forget to get your permit if you plan to stay out in Yosemite wilderness.

We started from upper pines campground and besides for the lake being low, the trail was beautiful and some what steep in a few areas but nothing to bad. Some areas of the trail have rocks that can be tricky to step around. Great views of the valley.

The best hike I've done in a long time. the views were absolutely incredible. The elevation gain isnt bad and the hike is just long enough for a nice full day of hiking.

Easy hike, beautiful payoff --of course, it's Yosemite.. everything is beautiful.

Not difficult. In view of reservoir and beautiful view much of the time.

11/27/18 This hike wrapped the 7th and final hike over our Thanksgiving vacation. It certainly was the highlight of our trip! There were so many different types of terrain on this trail from flat rock, to fallen leaves, stone stairs and my favorite was navigating over all the rock. We started at 8:45 am and ended up doing 13 miles in 5.25 hours with a small sandwich break. We primarily had the trail to ourselves until we started to venture back then ran into about a dozen people. The weather was perfect! Mid 50’s with a slight breeze and very clear. You’ll see breathtaking views of Hetch Hetchery Reservoire all along the trail. I believe there was 4 waterfalls in view as well. I would definitely do this trail again!

Great hike! Did it in November on a rainy day. If that’s what you’re planning to do, then be aware that trail and stairs are wet and slippery. If you have appropriate shoes, it is absolutely fine. Views are spectacular, the only downside is how crowded this trail is. Once you reach last third of the trail, it is pretty narrow on the stairs, due to which you have to stop and get off a bit in order to let people come up or down. We really enjoyed it regardless of crowds and rainy weather. Didn’t go further just because we did not pack enough water with us and initially planned it to be a short trip. However, you can continue to Nevada Falls and and other spectacular trails.

Hiked this in the rain, which was pretty miserable. But on a clear day, I imagine the views would be spectacular. Trail is moderately difficult and well maintained. Took me about 5.5 hours including lunch at the creek. Get there early if you want the trail to yourself -- I started at 9 and didn't see anyone until I was already halfway down.

Hands down one of the best hikes in Yosemite. I’ve done everything in the valley floor and driving up out of the valley to do this hike is absolutely worth it.

Try to get an early start. The trail was very crowded until the half way point where most people turn around.

Great, long hike with majestic views

Gorgeous views at the end and at Clouds Rest. Went on a Wed in November and only saw 5 people.

Took less than 7 hours excluding lunch. I’m fit but not in hiking at altitude shape.
-4 hours up and i took lots of mini breaks.
-2.5 hours down without stopping.

Decent AT&T reception at a couple of spots on the way. Solid reception at Clouds Rest.

as of today no snow. great views. took 5 hrs and 45 minutes round trip. highly recommend the hike

Not much to see on the way there...nothing spectacular BUT when you get to Cloud's Rest, it's like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Views are amazing. We had lunch at the top. It was so nice.

Kinda hard. Steep. Good.

Awesome hike. The beginning is the hardest part. Once you get over the first peak the rest is easy. Takes a while and is pretty cold. My friends and I climbed it as our first mountain and did it in under 6h.

Clouds Rest - what can I say. One of the most rewarding hikes I’ve ever done. The trail starts off very bland, hiking through a Forrest with standard views. The last kilometre though is special!

I agree with the below - as someone who is afraid of heights, the spine is not as scary as expected. The path is wide and has margin for error. If you are afraid, persevere. Take one step at a time, and before you know it, you’ll reach one of the best views Yosemite has to offer!

I’d also recommend:
1) leaving the trailhead before 9am. The trail is popular and leaving later means that you’ll be stuck at the top with quite a few people.
2) bring plenty of water. As of October 31, there is no real water stream to drink from.
3) bring layers. It was -2 degree Celsius (28 degrees Fahrenheit) at the trailhead at 9am.
4) don’t underestimate this hike! I saw a few people on the trail who were really struggling. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time and bring the proper gear (food, water, hiking shoes).

I did this easy hike with the fall colors at full glory, it was stunning! It didn't matter to me that the lake was empty because I was just stunned by all the beautiful fall color. Great photo opportunity!

I hiked this trail today and it took me about 7hrs total. There is a little bit of climbing, switchbacks, and some scenery and of course the 360 view from the top. I still prefer the Half Dome Trail as it offers a lot more.

generally: popular hike given destination with panoramic views of half dome and yosemite valley; most of the hike is in the woods with numerous switchbacks, not too much scenery in particular along the way
trailhead: at tenaya lake, go left over the bridge to get to trailhead, plenty of parking along road if not in lot
very busy trail, decent elevation gain and distance, took several hours

Exceptionnel! Vue incroyable ! Environ 7h de hiking en incluant une pause dîner au sommet . Le début est le plus difficile et ensuite c’est un niveau plus modéré

Nice walk through the valley. The lake is dried up right now, but worth going and sitting looking up at half dome while enjoying a snack.

Agree with the reviewer below - the last stretch from Clouds Rest foot trail was a test to the nerves, but totally worth it. The hike wasn’t that bad physically until the last stretch. I’d highly recommend getting there as early as you can (before 8am) to start this so you can enjoy the top in peace.

Left the trail head at 7:30 and got to clouds rest at 11:20. Yes the switchbacks on the first half of the trail are hard, but we thought the final push to the top was worse on the muscles. Having said that, it’s rated hard for a reason and the views were truly stunning. Only disappointment was there was a tech charter bus that dropped off 33 hikers right before us so the top was crowded and loud. Left there around 12:15 and got back to the sunrise trailhead at 3:15 with our joints telling us “enough already.” Coming from a mild acrophobic the narrow rock bridge to clouds rest tested my nerves but the views are 100% worth it and would do this hike again after exploring a couple other areas of the park we just haven’t gotten to yet.

Up the regular way and down through the John Muir trail. Wonderful views all the way.

i loved the view from the top, it’s panoramic 360° and you get an amazing view of half dome
and a river, don’t underestimate the hike, took us, three 19 year olds, 4 hours to the top and 3 hours to go down, lots of ascent and descents, suggest arrive at yosemite area the day before you plan your hike, we ended up hiking down in the dark, still very much worth the view, strenuous, saw barely anyone and those we came across were very friendly, bring LOTS of water, wouldn’t suggest as a family hike, the last 100 meters or so is very narrow and could be dangerous for younger hikers
