Nice hike with great views. Fun rock scramble at the end right before chasm lake.

On a whim after landing in Denver I decided I needed to see the Rockies. Drove up to Summit Lake (fun drive!) and decided to hike up the trail there. Only learned after that this is the Mt. Spalding trail. Anyhow, being from Boston I definitely felt the altitude but the trail was beautiful and the view was worth the shortness of breath. Also saw long horn sheep and a mountain goat, so that was cool. Trail is listed as hard which I think is less about the trail itself and more about the altitude.

GORGEOUS. no one is after the glacier. great hike!

Amazing! Beautiful hike with a great variety of scenery. Fairly tough incline throughout, but manageable if you pace yourself, and is worth it for the amazing views at the top.

Amazing hike and just the right amount of distance to keep the rest of the day open for more adventures!
Got to the upper lot around 630am and there were about 4 other cars there from folks backpacking and also starting early. The first quarter of the drive from the lower to upper lots is the worst of the entire part but it is nothing compared to how bad Grays and Torreys road is. Just take it slow on the bad parts. Even though the lower lots were jammed up, there were a few spots at the top when we finished around 10am.
Great colors with the fall foliage change on the bushes as well as the trees. Silver Dollar Lake(middle lake) was amazing and Murray Lake was about 300ft of elevation gain from there. Dont skip the third lake! There is a rock formation on one side that can be hiked from the backside which will give you a great topside view of the landscape.
As most hiking at this time, start as early as you can! The next few weeks will be jam packed with folks looking at the changing trees. This trail would be incredible with a little snow on the ground.

Very easy trail, heavy foot traffic. A little bouncy, but good for any 4 wheel drive vehicle. We decided to hike to the upper lakes, and the views did not disappoint. This is a very good family outing!

Beautiful views.

This was such a good sunrise hike. We had a very large group but everyone was able to make it up and down the scramble at the lake. If you’re not in great shape, the elevation gain will be challenging especially getting closer to the top. It was also super windy for us and I felt that I was going to be pushed over the edge into the gorges below us (it was also really dark too).

First off I would rate this as moderately hard haha. Only because of the elevation gain. The scramble at the end up to see the lake isn’t bad either and definitely worth it ! Lovely spot to rest and take in the beauty of the mountains and the crystal lake . Absolutely gorgeous .

We hiked Saturday September 15th. The colors are at or near Peak. Beautiful! The Aspens run just over 1 mile. Lots and lots of color... I've posted a few pictures.

When you reach your destination, enjoy the very old Bristlecone Pines.

My car doesn't have AWD so I parked at the lower lot. When I arrived at 7:45am on Saturday there was still plenting of parking spaces. This trail packs a lot of great views in its short length. I found this trail easy except for the short but steep climb to the third lake, which is worth it for the views from the top. I recommend coming early to this hike, when I left at 10:30am the trail and the parking lots had become very crowded.

went yesterday and the leaves are just about done falling off the aspens. Today will likely be the last day the hike will be good to see the aspens. low bush foliage is very pretty at the end in the bowl.

Nice relaxing hike with beautiful scenery, scenic overlooks and wildflowers. The second half of the hike is above the tree line.

Make sure you go all the way to the third lake.

One of my favorites .... not sure why, it doesn’t have lots of vista views but it’s a good steady work out and yet flat and easy just when you need it. The many different types of foliage is pretty awesome esp when aspens are turning.

great fall hike with beautiful Aspen groves throughout much of the hike.

wasn't sure where Jones Pass started so we walked up where the cars were coming. I had my dogs off leash so we ended up taking Butch trail because we didn't know where Jones started and there were too many cars going up and down the road. it's nice and quiet. Please pick up your dog's poop before you ruin it for everyone.

Great views in route and at summit. The trail presented is not accurate at 4wd road crossing. There are only wilderness signs on west side of road, no trail today. We took the 4wd road north to an established trail that goes west and merges to a summit trail. Another trail descends from simmit towards Alice. We explored that route and haf to tske with an unmarked and closed 4wd trail that goes east towards st marys and the illustrated trail. We eventually went off trail to go east and find the trail to st marys. The all trails presentation might be a snowshoe route or an older route before wilderness designation closed a trail.

Silver Dollar Lake was beautiful and definitely tested my lungs! Be careful because there are a few spots where the trail becomes slightly unclear, but thanks to this app, we did not get lost! You will realize it very quickly if you start veering off course anyways. There was a river at a few different points and three lakes along the way to the top! When you get to the second lake, you have the option to continue onto the third, and it is totally worth it if you are willing to exert your lungs! (I have asthma, so it was challenging, but definitely do-able!) This third lake offers a great spot to hang out for a bit and eat lunch! On our way down, we saw 4 wood peckers! I got some great up close shots of them that I will upload later. There are not a ton of aspens on this hike, but there are on the drive to the trail head. The hike also does include lots of bushes that have changed to an orange color which provide great fall color!

loch lamond lake! Nice trial! my first one..all ways easier on the way down..lol definitely a slow and bumpy trial! High clearance vehicle would help....Lake was gorgeous well worth the trip. 2014 Xterra stock BFGTK 02 TIRES

Beautiful terrain, very little foot traffic. I was the only one hiking this trail for the first couple hours this morning. I left St Mary’s trailhead at 7:15am and summited around 9:45. Beyond the St Mary’s trail it was tough to navigate the proper James Peak trail but there is a big dirt road that you can veer to the left and eventually find the smaller trail on the right for James Peak. Once on the trail, it was very well maintained and easy to navigate. I’ve lived in CO all my life and hiked lots of 14ers but I enjoyed this 13er the most!!! Beautiful and stunning views!!

This is so worth the hike. The lake is pretty and the view from the top looking down to the lake was awesome. The first part goes through the forest and I almost thought there isn’t much to see but as you gain elevation, it gets prettier and prettier. A little windy on the top. Don’t forget your wind jacket.

I had a great time on my trip to Chasm Lake, the views are remarkable and everyone I met along the way couldn’t help but gush about how unreal it is. My trekking poles helped me out a lot on the way back down, as did my headlamp - just keep your eyes peeled, I had a nice little run-in with a baby brown bear and had no intention of waiting around for it’s momma! Enjoy

Not the most scenic vista's but I love the trees and flowers on this one. Not many people on this one. Probably my most hiked trail over the years.

Beautiful hike! We went early which helped with the crowds. Uphill, somewhat challenging over rocky areas at times but overall the terrain is easy. Gorgeous views from up top!

Gorgeous fall colors! I couldnt stop taking photos.
I parked at the lower parking lot and its probably 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to the trailhead, not 1/4 like the description says.
The hardest part is from the second to third lake but its short so definitely do it so you can say you made the whole hike!

Just go! And don’t stop until you get the views of the continental divide! Bring water, prepare for some good elevation & a bit of wind. But you’ll reach the top!

This was a great hike. We submitted Bierstadt the day before, and this was the perfect, relaxing, beautiful hike to enjoy after feeling worn out from that. Had some fun snowfields we had to cross, which my dog loved, and the trail was saturated and muddy in several places. We made it to the Silver Dollar Lake, which was beautiful, but an afternoon storm rolled in on us and we had to make our way back down, instead of continuing on to the second lake. Would do it again, if ever nearby.

In my mind this qualifies more as a climb than a hike. Very strenous. the first part of the hike to the tundra is like a staircase with steps created from logs and rock. These steps can be couple feet high and it is interesting to see how people have created mini diversions around the steps. Be prepared for a very tough day and try to avoid weekends. Gets very crowded.
