Yellowstone National Park, WY Map

Beautiful. And is closer to easy than moderate. Plenty of change but plenty flat

Beautiful easy hike underwater thermo features pretty not super crowded when I was there. Avoid times of due north or me wind

Nic trail and at highest elevation stay near trail area it seems open in areas where you can be tempered to wander a bit but beware as thermo features are not clearly marked off so danger danger of if wander

Just do it. It's beautiful, easy and underwater geysers are just plain cool. Plus---the Colors!

I have done this Mystic Falls loop three different times of the summer. Mid-to-late June is the best b/c the snow melt is awesome; the water is roaring; and there are small waterfalls that are very nice that are gone by mid-July and thereafter. Every time I go back to YNP, this hike is a Must. A repeat.

Well worth the hike will do again

Such an interesting hike with lots of geological features!!

We were able to go in late October. It was a wonderful hike since we were about the only ones there!!! We saw lots of bison and such interesting and magnificent scenery!

Interesting but a bit too smelly. Nice information if
You have a guide who is passionate about the area.
I enjoyed it with Wildland Trekking.

I guess if you are going to show some out of town folks Old Faithful and want to call it a hike, this would be the route, but not really something I’d do again unless that was the exact goal. Hiking up to observation point started to feel like I was finally hiking but then by the time I got away from the crowds of people we began to descend into them again. Views of a bunch of tourists waiting for Old Faithful to erupt, and a river bridge, and a descent view overlooking the other side of the lodge. Good if it’s your first time in the park and just want to walk around.

Old Faithful is way too hyped up. Its predictably is about all that’s notable. Beyond that it’s jammed with bus upon bus of tourists who leaving thinking “that was it?”. My recommendation is to get away from the main events and hike to some waterfalls - Mystic, Fairy, Osprey. They are not difficult to get to and you’ll taste more of the ruggedness and beauty of Yellowstone.

Make sure to do the entire loop. If you start low, keep going up and up and up after you pass the falls. It’s a peaceful hike and chances are you won’t encounter many others. The view at the top is great.

Fascinating sights!

Unbelievable sights. Very beautiful view of Yellowstone Lake.

Good family friendly hike

2 different thermal features which are very unique on their own.

Unique geothermal activity by the side of the lake gives it a different appeal.

Very Unique geological experience

great trail.... away from all of the people in YNP... bring deet if hiking in summer.. tons of mosquitoes and flies.. a little difficult when hitchhiking to the trailhead... I hitched from old faithful to the start of the dirt road... then off and on until I got to the trailhead... I think I spent more time hitchhiking to the trailhead than on the trail! haha .. fun trail.. wide river ford at the beginning..

Saw Elk at this interesting group of hot springs adjacent to the Yellowstone Lake

I have always come in from Fish Lake. This trail features three river crossings, which for me adds to the fun, and skips the elevation gain of the Grassy Lake trail. About the same total distance. Hardly ever meet anyone on this trail.

The short walk was make all the more interesting with the 4 inches of snow cover...giving the area a 'rather steamy' fog like look as you walked. Interesting area to explore.

A good change of pace from the geyser basin boardwalk trails. No crowds and a surprisingly nice waterfall to view. We hiked to this from the Old Faithful Lodge so it was a little longer than the stated 3.4 miles.

An easy hike but one of the more enjoyable ones that we did on our trip. Gives you the feeling of being out of the way without having to go too far out into the back country. We ran into a few other groups but everyone was very considerate. Bring a camera and enjoy the falls!

Awesome to stand right over the hot springs from the safety of a boardwalk. The water is so clear you almost can't tell its there. Then look up for the picture purfect lake!
