Beautiful falls. Got to see a bald eagle come up the river and fly over the falls.

Quick and fun. Path well established and perfect for photo ops.

Trail closed for bear activity. 9/26/18

Great trail with great views the whole way! Was surprised by a grizzly on the trail about 15 yrds from us as we turned a corner about halfway from the inspiration point trailhead. Ended up driving to inspirational point.

This was a challenging hike, and steep at times but slow and steady wins the race on this one. The views at the top are incredible! You can see all the way to the Grand Tetons. But make sure to bring warm layers for the top, it was a beautiful sunny 65 degree day at the bottom but incredibly windy and cold at the top. Thankfully people have built small rock wall barriers that you sit in and eat and relax at the top. We made it up in 2hrs 20min and it took about 1hr to get down. Coming down was challenging at points because of the steepness coupled with all the loose rocks and dirt, I recommend finding a walking stick.

great for small kids

8/17/2018.
We hiked this trail from the lava creek trail head parking lot out towards Undine Falls and back again. Steep downhill to get to the suspension bridge crossing the Gardiner River - a fun trail addition, especially the signs warning people not to try and get their horses to cross the bridge!
You’ll walk through tall sagebrush and grasses, so be sure you have bug spray as well as your bear spray.
We ran into three other hikers and spotted some elk grazing by the river.
The trail shows signs of being VERY muddy earlier in the year, making the footing somewhat difficult. Hikers and large wildlife had churned it up pretty good, and it dried into a lumpy mess. Boots are a must here.
We saw lots of signs of wildlife and an elk carcass, but no large animal sightings except the two elk. We started our hike at 9:30 am. Very pretty scenery along the river and at one spot in the trail you are close enough to get down to it.

easy hike but not flowing well in middle of September

A great hike to test your legs and your stamina!

Is quite crowded for most of it but the views are excellent.

Very nice view 360 degree view from the top including Yellowstone Lake and other mountain peaks. Not an easy hike and the 4.1 mile distance is definitely off. My Apple Watch recorded 5.53 miles, someone should get this distance updated. I was hoping to see some bighorn sheep or a grizzly at distance but didn’t see either. Challenging but well worthwhile hike.

More geysers. All unique

Less busy trail. The portal creek road is challenging, best to have 4x4 or AWD with high clearance. Worth the drive and hike. Bring water, bear spray and your fly rod.

Nice short hike. Picnic tables etc. at trailhead parking lot. Very pretty. Good hike for families and people who have difficulties on unimproved trails.

We thought this was a great hike in May and we saw the Steamboat Geyser eruption on the way up.

Great hike! Being from Washington and sea level, the elevation was the biggest challenge, like some others have said. My husband and I could not catch our breaths by the time we were about halfway up! Gorgeous views though of the park, lake, and mountain ranges.

This hike was HARD but so worth it! I consider myself in shape however the elevation kicked my butt. I panted the whole way up because it is quite literally a constant incline. It gets a little sketchy up top with loose rocks that make you feel like you might slip right off the Mountain. The views are spectacular throughout though! I’ll be sore for days but I’d do it all again! I think the distance should be edited - my Fitbit tracked 3.05 miles one way - which would make this hike 6.10 miles not 4.1.

Such diversity in one park continues to inspire. The paintpots are beautiful and very entertaining to watch.

Great hike. The views were amazing. Started at Lower Falls, hiked to Inspiration Point and then back to Grand View and Overlook.

Can’t wait to go back! When I was there, my husband and I hiked a portion of it with our 6th month old which was interesting. It was steep and chilly so we ended up turning around but the views were INSANE! Super pretty place, I don’t think Americans realize how lucky they are to have a country so beautiful as ours! The GC at YST is amazing and everyone should see it! Next time I intend to take my older kids there to hike the entire park!

Short and rewarding hike. It was a steady climb most of the way with a lot of rock scrambling towards the last 1/2 mile, but I didn’t find it particularly challenging. I reached the peak in about an hour and 15 minutes and down in less than an hour. Great views at the top but it is very windy so layers are a must!

We only hiked the main section. Didn't brave the steps all the way down. breathtaking view and afterwards we saw three bucks in velvet having a little snack.

Amazing!! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Did it in the morning in July, still pretty chilly with some snow near the top. The views along the way and at the top are incredible, but extremely windy at the top. Still a great hike

dragon's mouth spring was the neatest feature here. the mud pots at artists paint pots are cuter, lol.

i surprisingly enjoyed this more than i thought i would, lol. i started out at the old faithful area so maybe by that time i was already geyser'd out since i found the paint pots so bubbly cute! i'd suggest going clockwise (hang to the left) to save the best (mud pots) for last.

Beautiful

Hiked from Lava Creek Trailhead to Mammoth Campground. It's almost all downhill this direction. Had the trail to ourselves; a rarity in Yellowstone. Beautiful, easy 4 miles.

Tough hike. But worth the pain.

Short. Asphalt surface. Nice waterfall!
