This was an easy hike to begin a three day back country adventure for us. By accident, we timed it perfectly to arrive right before the geyser erupted, and it was beautiful. We didn’t bother with old faithful and from everything we heard, this was better anyway. I was certainly wowed by this experience! Our back country hike ended through this trail as well, so it was a great “almost home” marker for me, too

Beautiful views!!! We felt like we were on top of the world as we ate our lunch. There was snow, ice and mud on the trail making it tricky to get to the top. I suggest to go a little earlier in the season Did it with a 5,9,11,13, and 15 year old and 2 out of shape parents. The whole trip up and down took 5 hours.

Hiked this trail to the overlook. Wow! it's a gorgeous view. I'd call it a moderate hike. We are seniors in our 60's, and felt like it gave us a little challenge. We packed our lunch and sat at the overlook eating on a beautiful fall afternoon. The only disappointment we had was the lack of wildlife. Even from the overlook, we could see no wildlife. But, that's the way it's been the entire trip. Where are all the animals? Wolves taking care of them?

This is an awesome little trail to get a sample of a lot of the wonders of Yellowstone. There are some sections with stairs, which, during our October visit, were caked in ice and really tricky to manage for children. Worth it though!

Quick and fun. Path well established and perfect for photo ops.

Trail closed for bear activity. 9/26/18

Great trail with great views the whole way! Was surprised by a grizzly on the trail about 15 yrds from us as we turned a corner about halfway from the inspiration point trailhead. Ended up driving to inspirational point.

road closed middle end of September

This a a great hike with gorgeous views most of the way up. It took us about 1:15-30min to get to the top and that includes a few breaks for water and pictures (and about 45min to hike down). All 4 of us are decently experienced hikers and it was a bit strenuous at times, but not hard. Once at the top, there were some people up there and we decided to keep walking straight for about 5-10 more minutes to an area that had 4 stones to sit on and eat our lunch with 360 degrees of stunning views!

easy hike but not flowing well in middle of September

Is quite crowded for most of it but the views are excellent.

We took the overlook trail up. The switchbacks were tough. It was not very well marked at the top. We, luckily, found our way back to the trail to the falls. Other than that the trail was well maintained. The views were incredible. The falls were spectacular. Overall a fantastic hike.

Did this as a loop, going up the Bunsen Peak trail, east off the summit and down to the Osprey Falls trail. The Bunsen Peak trail is excellent. Well maintained with excellent views all the way up. View from the top is outstanding. It looses a star for the crowds, even after Labor Day, and the cell service at the top. This led to cell phones ringing and people texting or on their social media.
You leave everyone behind when you go east off the summit. The down side to that is that the trail isn’t in as good shape. There was a short stretch near the top crossing scree that required some path finding. After that the trail stays near the top of the ridge through mostly burned forest for a mile or so before going down steep switchbacks to a road. The views on the second part of the hike are not as good as on the way up but it’s nice to get away from crowds this close to one of Yellowstone’s major attractions.
Finally, even with my sea level lungs and arthritic knees I’d rate this hike moderate, not hard. There are many hikes rated moderate in AllTrails much harder than this one. Don’t be put off by the hard rating.

We thought this was a great hike in May and we saw the Steamboat Geyser eruption on the way up.

Such diversity in one park continues to inspire. The paintpots are beautiful and very entertaining to watch.

Great hike. The views were amazing. Started at Lower Falls, hiked to Inspiration Point and then back to Grand View and Overlook.

Can’t wait to go back! When I was there, my husband and I hiked a portion of it with our 6th month old which was interesting. It was steep and chilly so we ended up turning around but the views were INSANE! Super pretty place, I don’t think Americans realize how lucky they are to have a country so beautiful as ours! The GC at YST is amazing and everyone should see it! Next time I intend to take my older kids there to hike the entire park!

A bit disappointed given it’s essentially a biking trail and flat all the way. They are supposed to note on the trail head when the last eruption of the geyser was. None had been recorded for the day. We arrived an hour too late and when we got there would have had to wait for another 2 hours. More information from the park rangers would have been useful.

it is just beautiful. easy walk. sept. very cold in morning

Don't be intimidated by the hard rating it is tough but very manageable and the views at the top are breathtaking.

A great hike. Well maintained and mostly clear trail. Easy to walk and maintain a good pace. Beautiful views all the way up. Hiked with my husband and 5 year old daughter.

We did this hike three days ago. Started pretty early and had it mostly to ourselves. Very easy practically flat with changing scenery throughout. Forest to open meadows and then of course the lake area. Huge bull bison hanging out right off the trail about a half mile in. The area around the lake is lovely and quiet. Lots of lily pads so seems like a good place for moose although we didn’t see any. We’d do this hike again just for the scenery.

Trail was a bit confusing and poorly marked at first. Do not head uphill to the overlook if you are wanting to get to Fairy Falls, just keep walking. Once you're on the trailhead, it's marked very well. Fairy Falls was great and the chipmunks were overly friendly. We walked on to Imperial Geyser and back out. Trail gets a bit muddy in sections but for the most part it's flat and well maintained.

This was great hike. We timed it perfectly so that we only had to wait about 20 minutes for eruption. This hike was well worth the planning and the geyser was far superior to Old Faithful.

Amazing!! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Did it in the morning in July, still pretty chilly with some snow near the top. The views along the way and at the top are incredible, but extremely windy at the top. Still a great hike
