Great hike! The loop is not quite as loop-like as I was hoping. But the overlook is beautiful! Would do again!

Beautiful views. Great day hike! Just enough uphill to make it a little bit of a workout, but not bad. The rocks twist a little under the boots so have to watch your footing. It was a little of a busy trail...definitely not the busiest we have been on.

Nice scenic walk. Lots of people on nice weekend days...

Great trail! Went out on St. Patrick’s day for an overnight trip. Saw a good amount of people. Great hike to get some elevation without super strenuous uphills. Excited to come back and do this again.

I would rank the view from Chimney Top the best in the state, hands down. The trail is difficult and you work for the reward, but man, is it one hell of a reward. The trail itself was steep in places, rocky in others, and steep and rocky in some places alltogether, but I would hike this 10 more times given the chance and I don't think I would tire of the view.

Great and hard hike. We hiked this today, and got to the main overlook in about an hour and 15 minutes. Note: the bulk of the length of this trail is in the woods. The bulk of the elevation, though, is once you hit the ridge with the overlooks. Don't let the elevation rate on that map fool you. It most certainly isn't that gradual.

That said, of all the hikes I've done, I think the view from this hike is the most varied and special. While the 360° view is not completely unobstructed, I personally believe it is much better than Old Rag.

Lots of uphill hiking! The views are spectacular and I loved the signs explaining the history of the area.

Great trail !! I did the trail in the fall !

This was my first big hike. it's special to me because my family settled the areas on both sides of the mountain.. The Bowers family in VA and Heishman family in Trout Run.

So for me, the hike was worth the insane first mile uphill. Once it levels off, you get a bit of a break while you hike the top of the mountain. Lots of great places to stop along the way and see the valleys.

The bridge is really neat, and not something you see much of on trails. I really enjoyed just sitting alone at the summit, enjoying the breeze and taking pics. Believe it or not, you can get 4G up there!

I first went in April 2017. Then did Tibbett Knob later in the year with my daughters.

Be careful of the drive up. Lots of blind curves and a narrow road. People take the curves pretty quick and we had to pull onto the shoulder a couple of times to avoid getting smashed.

First mile is uphill with plenty of rocks. After that it is still rocky but levels off. Great views along the way. Definitely worth dealing with the ascent.

A very nice hike. Too many stream crossings too count. Those crossings are fun and not hard to do (in the winter at least).

Great hike with views all the way up and down. Good incline on way up. Somewhat rocky, nice hike with dogs

also saw a military plane/jet similar to an "osprey" fly perpendicular with the ridge line extremely low to the ground, wicked sight.

This trail is great! It’s well marked and a great workout. One of my favorites!

Had a great time on this trail. Challenging climb in the beginning but worth it once you’re at the top! Plenty of historical sites & views to check out before you begin your decent. Did this in early February so it was a bit cold & windy. Would suggest folks make sure to have a windproof shell or other outer layer to stay comfortable when the wind picks up.

Amazing hike! Killer first mile uphill though

The first part is all uphill and is killer but it evens out about halfway up the trail. Views are amazing and worth it!!! So beautiful.

Rocky. Recommend good shoes. Excellent hike with beautiful views.

Hiked up to chimney top from the North slope 7-23-17. Spectacular view looking south west toward spruce knob. Took appoximately 2 hours to climb and only 1 hour to descend. Amazing how quiet it is at the top ridge.

Combined Tibbet Knob Trail with Big Schloss Trail for a 7.5 mile hike with 2000 ft elev. gain. A good workout. Highly recommended.

Steep climb but ohhh so worth the views!!!

One of my all time favorites.

Enjoyable...the extra hike to the fort at the top was tough but an great day hike.

Great hike, even for beginners. Even after a snowfall.

backpacked down from top of spruce knobs the camped 2 nights on river hiked the trails beautiful scenery, waterfalls and campsites. hiked up and out hard hike but worth it

Great views. Went in 2016.

Great trail for some serious elevation gain. If you continue along the trail at about the 6 mile mark you'll reach the high point of the North Fork Mountain Ridge. The views from here offer great views of the ridges and valleys. A 12 mile total out and back is nothing to sneeze at when the total elevation gain came in around 3,400'

Great trail. Steep climb for about a mile, then levels off along the ridge. Beautiful views. Trail is pretty rocky - so would only recommend sturdy hiking boots. Looking forward to completing Tibbett Knob next.
