Good hike with a payoff stream to chill at at the top. I love the incline which is hard but not so hard for hat footing becomes an issue.
It’s unfortunate that folks go ghetto and have the urge to paint their crap on rocks or play music so loud that others can hear it 100 yards away.

Awesome hike. Did the hike on Saturday October 13, 2018. Snow and Whiteout at the top. Be prepared for freezing temperatures.

Great hike! Not sure why this is rated moderate. It's definitely easy. It's flat the whole way. The trail gets a little messy sometimes and you have to go over rocks and cross the river but nothing crazy. This was absolutely lovely.

nothing's marked every sign was graffitied over the trail is very rocky and you have a incline all the way to the falls if you go past the first fall and stay to your left there is a second one which is nicer ,the veiws are decent but not sure if we will be going back

Steady incline on loose rocks for about 1.75 miles. Small waterfall at top with small creek. Worth the hike. Took about 45min to get up and 30 min down. Rocks are slick by the waterfall, so plz watch your kids.

Did this hike yesterday with a friend, our first time doing this. We planned on doing the hike via devil's backbone and down but we took the wrong trail and playfully hiked a few miles and relized we were at the ski hut. probably one of the best mistakes we did during this hike, our knees thanked us when we got back down via backbone. The weather was pleasant with occasional gusts which felt very chilly but the sun being out almost all day helped. Views on the way up and down were spectacular. All in all a difficult hike made easy by the good weather and amazing views.

Good trail, easy to follow. Moderate intensity on the way up. It was more like 10 miles round trip and took me 3hrs and 30mins. Nice views from the top of the ocean and the valley.

Great trail, especially late-afternoon when I did it. It took me 2 1/2 hours and I was booking it, so I would definitely allow yourself 3 for sure. I combined the Dawn Mine Trail, which takes you down into a thickly wooded ravine with lots of boulders and a lovely stream, with the Mount Lowe Railway Trail, which is paved but still really nice, on the return. It took me about 1-1 1/4 hours to get to the Dawn Mine area, and then you can turn left and head up the hillside and then return along the ridge, which gives you great views of Altadena all the way to Downtown LA. Highly recommended. Only say about 10 people the whole time. Can't wait to go again!

It was great, but nothing special!

Really nice area but the gate was locked and couldn’t get in, they replaced the fence AND. got stuck in the mud right before the gate. Geez bad day I’ll tell ya what.....

Solid. Didn’t see anyone for 3 hours, other than some rock climbers. Not really one to do solo in hindsight.
I went side to side rather than there and back - no WiFi the other end, a few lodges and stuff you can log on.

A good time. The first .5 miles is along a road. You then turn onto the trail and head up the canyon following the creek. The next mile the path is very clear as you meander along the creek to camp one. Beyond camp one the trail is a bit washed out and there are a few sections where you lose the trail a bit. As long as you follow the creek you should be able to head the right direction and find the trail again. There is a STUNNING camp site about three miles in. Chirping birds and crickets, the sound of the flowing creek, a lovely breeze, a big oak tree and a nice flat camp spot. THERE IS A LOT OF POISON OAK ON THIS HIKE. SO MUCH POISON OAK. IT IS EVERYWHERE. But minus the poison oak it is a really good time and super beautiful.

Absolutely fantastic! Challenging is an understatement. Did it alone and never got lost. The view up top was beautiful! Definitely pack warm gear because it was maybe 40 degrees with a 50 mile per hour wind gusts early this morning. Loved it!!!

One of my favorite 'local' hikes. The most difficult portions is the final climb right before the summit and the rest of the decline since I am somewhat clumsy coming down. Views were great except for the summit since it was in a haze with lots of wind.

Great hike! Don’t try this if you have bad knees as the downhill section will be torture. Luckily for me my knees are not completely gone but I definitely was feeling it.

My third time doing this hike but first time doing the loop counter clockwise which I was told is "easier". I didn't think so. I prefer clockwise because the down portion the way back from the peak is brutal and you don't get that treat of an ice cold craft beer at the lodge.

TIPS: pack lots of water; do the loop counter clockwise so you can spend some time drinking a beer at the lodge at the end; don't forget your Adventure Pass.

Loved this trail arrows are everywhere make side to make it to the back pool where there is a waterfall and rope to climb

Amazing a good work out getting up there but so worth the time and we seen three amazing water falls .Will be going again!!

Enjoyed this easy hike with my 4 year old. Trail was a lil challenging for my lil one but we managed to complete within 3 hours. He enjoyed the rock climb up the chain of waterfalls. Coming down was too easy for both of us. I thought the hike up was a steady slight incline. Whole hike is no shade until the falls. Great picnic spot. Cool exploration for the lil ones. New favorite spot.

I have done this trail twice! Both times it was pretty hot out so make sure you bring plenty of water with you. You can hike two main ways through santa Paula canyon, or along the water to the punch bowls. I preferred going along the water the second time because there was more shade and I enjoy an occasion splash when I get hot but that’s just me! However stunning views overlooking the canyon if you follow the main trailhead/orange and green markers! There is trash unfortunately so be a handy earth lover and bring a trash bag with you, it made me feel better cleaning up as I went. But the Punchbowl was awesome! Fun area to have a picnic and say hello to fellow travelers!

Really pretty and challenging hike. As someone else has mentioned, reaching a parking lot at the top is not ideal. It’s just not the same kind of reward you get when you hike San Jacinto for example. If I were to do this hike again I think I would have someone pick me up at the top and drive me back to my car. Going up is always more fun than coming back down, at least for me.

The first waterfall was ok, but the hidden second waterfall was amazing. Keep climbing up to the left to see the second. There is nothing beyond the second waterfall besides more boulders and dry plants.

Great hike, brought the pup along, its mostly unshaded though and at points, it was a bit too hot for her. We started around 11 am though and I would say this hike is best suited for early morning or late afternoon with 3/4 hours planned for walking/enjoying the scenery. Someone was kind enough to leave an arrow up to the narrow rocky trail leading up to peak! It's a fairly easy hike, up to the peak is the only real incline/climbing part and it's not too much. Enjoy and BRING EXTRA WATER it gets HOT out there even in Sept! :D

I hiked on 9/22/18. started at parking lot at 0645, made it to the summit at 1215( yeah, I'll never break any speed records) at my age just finishing is a big deal.
Trail is beautiful, mostly in shade through forest, just gorgeous. last few miles to the summit are a bit rough. but of the 4 six pack of peaks that I have done this year. the is easily the most beautiful.
if you go on the weekends, the Cosmic Cafe is open at the summit. Had a killer hot dog, coke and cookie all for 10 bucks. a life saver. got back down to car at 515. so a full day hiking. Fyi, all trails has it as 11 miles, the signage on the trail show it round trip at 14. both my pedometers showed it 18. So go figure. Anyway a great day and an awesome hike. places to camp along the way also.

We ended up taking the long way by hiking the trail on the left and making a loop around. Definitely a good workout! The falls are a great place to take a break.

*butt kicker
*super windy, hence the name

Loved it! Doing this trail again! I loved sitting on the rocks and putting my feet in the water when reaching the top. And we saw a deer

Great hike-you’re inclining the whole way. It is listed as EASY but I beg to differ that it is more of a MODERATE hike, but well worth it once you get to the waterfall.

This trail is uphill all the way! Not sure who put it as an easy trail but it is definitely not! Very strenuous but worth it once you get to the top!
