Some of the most amazing views I have ever had the pleasure of taking in. A good, strenuous hike with major payoffs. A good amount of people were on the trail along with me despite being early on a Tuesday morning.

Was a great hike did the route backwards went up the Major welch trail first ,and down the AT .
Amazing views of the Hudson river and surrounding area

Hiked with my daughter. As many has said it is an uneven trail. lots of rocks, hills, trees and roots. No real photo opts, then again we didn't finish. We got halfway around then needed to turn back as the sun was going down.

A gnarly hike coming down, icy and muddy. Otherwise, a beautiful view at the top! :)

Really nice trail, started with the steps, then thru the very steep descent. Good workout, and the view is amazing!!! My 9 year old got thru with no issues!

My friends and I did this trail yesterday. It was very well marked which was great.

The snow and ice and not having spikes on our shoes is what made this trail a living hell. We came down Devil's Path and it was a slip and slide between the snow, ice, and mud. We picked up sticks to help us but it was still a very scary hike. The conditions was what made it negative but otherwise we have clamboured over this trail like nothing.

I want to do it again when there is not snow.

It's a good hike for being so close to the city. Nice views, streams, meadows, pitch pines and rock formations. Pretty well marked but pay attention at junctions. Went up the black mark on white and came back on the yellow to the white. Met some nice folks on top who arrived from different starting points in Harriman. The trail is rocky and footing is tricky at times with small loose rocks. Good shoes and poles with serve you well, especially on the way down. Still a little muddy in spots. Waterproof shoes a good idea for now.

easy to acces from new york. nice walk a little bit climbing on one site. easy to walk on the other one

Day hike. Nice climb to start, was a clear day, NYC skyline in full view. Easy downhill on well maintained trail steps. Great views of Bear Mountain Bridge and the Hudson Valley.

Harder than expected, especially the steep scramble but downhill as well. We are not big hikers in general and typically stick to scenic walking trails so this was a bit more difficult for our skill level however it’s doable. Kids and dogs were doing it. Would come back for sure!

4/21/18- Fabulous Hike! Climbing Boulders. Beautiful day for a hike, temp was about 60 degrees and Sunny. Great for the Experienced Hiker. Took us just under 2 hours for up and back. Great views!
I HIGHLY Recommend this trail.

2nd time doing this hike (heavy fog the first time ~ back in October '17). Arrived at trailhead at 9am and had the entire trail to ourselves except for passing another couple about a mile in who we never saw again. Took the white to the blue back to white (counter clockwise on the map). First mile is rather boring but once you pass the intersection with the road and start heading up the blue, it's really pretty with lots of different terrain, rock scrambles and views. I like this trail so much better than Storm King Mountain. I also clocked it ~ again ~ at 4.3 miles, not 3.6 miles.

Beautiful at this time of the year. Saw a red shouldered hawk with full wing span circling around. We started with white, then yellow and then ended green trail marks at lake skanantati parking. Beautiful forestry with deciduous and evergreens trees and hidden water bodies.

Did this exact height today. R-D ridgewalk is a favorite. Lots of people and dogs, but certainly not as crowded as Reeves Brook area. Moderate, not difficult

Great hike, a lot of rock scrambling! We took the breakneck trail and took a longer loop into the wilkinson trail. 4.5 hours total with 5-7 stops.

The hike is open as of today (4.21.2018) but might be closing for renovation soon.

Hiked this last weekend, and it was great! Took my Eno up, hung it, and relaxed at the top for a couple hours. Beautiful

Great hike to start off spring hiking. Recommend going earlier to avoid a lot of foot traffic, however even at 9am there were still a lot of people. Also, a ton of dogs on the trail. When you get to the first over look there is a lot of glass. Great hike over all!

We were blessed with 80 degrees weather this Saturday and decided to do this strenuous hike in this wonderful weather.
Had heard some news about the trail closing for renovation but it's not and someone was mentioning that it will be closing by the end of this month. Too bad

Beginner hiker here:: more like 3 1/2 stars— strenuous and intense climb to the top with a small outlook, but amazing view!

LOTS OF snow and ice. Rocky and very muddy path.

Took about 5 hours to complete the loop. My SO and I went backwards? (Stayed left and went up Devil’s path and then down Jimmy Dolan Notch) so it felt like we climbed most of the way.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND hiking boots/shoes with spikes due to the snow and ice. Bring walking sticks! My boyfriend and I used a thick branch which helped us from not falling too much.

Update: the trails renovations have been set back and remains open. This is a hard trail do he prepared and please don’t leave any garbage along your hike and enjoy what it has to offer.

My first hike!! My buddy picked a doozy! That initial ascent....Wow! I thought “hike” meant “walk”. I got schooled but I’m glad for the experience.

Nice walk with a number of little streams to cross (at least in early April). As others have suggested, even though the distance is pretty short, the terrain is uneven so you get a decent calf workout. It certainly felt like more than 3 miles. I also took the triangle to yellow to green route, as a few others have suggested.

Some nice views at different points if you go before the foliage is fully grown in.

Nice 3 mike walking trail, with a few creeks to jump over... almost went off the trail a few times tho!

Beautiful trail

I would say it was pretty strenuous hike. We did it in 3hrs 7minutes... I'd be weary of the coyotes. One or two were following us from a distance on the way down. Enjoyed the view at the top.

As beautiful a view as it gets at Sam’s Point. The loop, while mostly paved, offered some really great scenery as well. If you stick to the loop, it’s an easy hike. Where it gets tricky are the unmaintained trails that seem to be everywhere. Highly recommend!

one foot infront on the other keep a steady pace, great views when you reach the top elevation. moderate begining that levels off for a relaxing stroll.

This was my first time at this preserve and I really liked it! The trails seemed to be marked good. I will be back!

Black rock is one of my favorite hikes. Small climbs with lots of dense forest to hike through. Small clearings with views every now and then but this one is all about the forest

This was a nice trail. The hike up the white trail was a good climb that will get you breathing heavy. From there we followed the yellow blazes out to the megaliths for a view. A very nice man pointed out the different mountains we could see in the distance. On the return, we followed the black dot trail(white blaze with black dot). This trail was much less traveled and quiet. Overall, a nice hike
