The vegetation, trail, and dramatic view point are all impressive. I enjoyed this better than Devil's Slide across the canyon.

Hiked this on Sunday 11/11/18. It was beautiful and not as hard as I expected. What made this beautiful hike difficult was the freezing cold winds.

Dislike. No shade. Lots of graffiti and trash.

One of my favorite big bear hikes. Done it in the summer, spring, fall and winter. Always great. Not super easy, but not very hard.
Great view at the top.

We took a wrong turn and turned it into an 8.2 miler...but still I think 6.8 is short. I think it’s more like 7.5.
Great hike. Very easy until the last mile which is a very steep uphill climb on a fire road. Beautiful view from the top.
For me, even though it’s longer, it seemed easier than the Gray’s Peak trail.

Beautiful hike. Difficult but worth it! Start early park closes gates strictly 5pm

Easy hike with plenty of people on a November Sunday late afternoon. Dry creekbed.

Perfect to test our skills

Fun and easy hike and the fall was beautiful. The parking lot was closed because of fire season. The incline from the parking area was the hardest part and added a mile to the hike. When the parking lot is open I would recommend for children.

Nice trail. Lots of bugs though. Annoying.

used to he a great trail where I popped my off-roading cherry in high school. perfect since it was in Orange County, but now its paved and there's warnings about leaving the trail. unless you're hiking, this trail is just about dead.

THE PEAK WITH THE BEST VIEW.

Nice gradual ascent in the pines.Beautiful autumn colors.

This hike is pretty easy compared to its rating. I did it at night, while recovering from a cold. Going uphill sick wasn’t a joy, but the views are worth it! Most of the trail is well maintained with little rock issues. Once you get to the last half a mile it becomes lose, but still walkable. If you are looking to work on your cardio or sweat out a cold, this is a good hike. I didn’t see “shortcuts,” but from the map, they look similar to the path. The part that would make this rated hard would be the uphill motion, but it’s not difficult. It just pumps your heart. This is good practice for anyone looking to strengthen their heart.

Nice moderate hike, some cool places on the way

Great hike with nice views at Grand View Point. A nice way to ease myself back into hiking!

I thought I was gonna die! Lol! I am just starting to hike again and this might have been a bit ambitious of me! We were heading to Ontario Peak, but I only make it to Icehouse Saddle. 4.2 miles and 2500 ft elevation gain. This trail kicked my butt! The fall colors were putting on a show and the trail is beautiful, paralleling a stream part of the way. I wish my spaghetti legs had allowed me to head down to if for a photo op, but I was afraid that I wouldn't make it back up to the trail! I will do this hike again, and I will make it to the peak next time!

Great for a short hike not to hard, but little water coming down the falls.

Nice hike most of the way until the end where it becomes a very steep fire road. When you get to the top it is a very pretty view but not much room as if it covered with radio towers. Not quite the peaceful peak we had imagined. But there are some small trees so we hung the hammock and made the best of it watching a beautiful sunset.

Great 2ish hour hike! Incline is a bit steep otw up but the views are definitely pretty! No shade so wear a hat!

Great trail. Good for dogs. Probably not kids, though. Very steep in places.

Phenomenal hike. Great views and very fresh air. Loved it.

Nice trail. Started at Serrano camp ground. There is a tunnel under the road to the trail head. Nice view over valley after first couple miles. last turn to peak steep rocky access road. view from top worth the climb.

Having hiked this trail on an annual basis for over 20 years today was the first time since the Lake fire in 2015 that I have hiked it. Started out from the trailhead at 6:15 and reached the talus rock summit of Shields Pk. about 3 hours later. I was happy to see that the fire had only touched the Eastern most portions of the trail leaving most of this beautiful forest untouched. The views eastward from the peak include Charelton, Jepson, Gorgonio, and San Jacinto as well as many other of the lesser peaks near 10K. After a short break on Shields I headed over to Anderson Pk. the 3rd tallest peak in the range of individual prominence for another short break. The views from Anderson are a bit more obscured as there are more trees on this summit, but with a bit of moving around all high summits can be viewed from this peak. A very nice day with less than a dozen people encountered during the day, all of which were on the decent.

nice hike it has couple small waterfalls, around 1 miles is uphill and the rest is easy

The view from the top is well worth the effort! I didn’t think the trail was too difficult, but you can feel the incline and the altitude may be bothersome if you aren’t accustomed to it. Parking wasn’t an issue for me around 3:30 on a Saturday although earlier in the day, it seemed to be pretty full. I did get off trail once, but it wasn’t that far before I realized my mistake and backtracked to the correct direction.

Great hike on the main trail into Sandstone Peak- gradual ascent, some minor scrambling, not too many rocks. Wonderful views across to Channel Islands from Sandstone, but a lot of scrambling and sharp rocks to get there- great for the experience, but not something to repeat often.

This was one of the best hikes! Highly recommend it

This is an awesome hike that I have done and loved so much. However today it is closed due to a fire!!!
