Lots and lots of stairs. This could be a training hike for something more difficult in the future. I’d definitely come back.

Excellent trail with some beautiful views. This is a challenging trail with a lot of stairs up and down all throughout the trail. Lots of snakes and lizards crawl around as well so keep your eyes peeled.

Best hike in Austin if you're looking for a workout! Elevation change gets me breathing heavy;there are tons of stairs. Beautiful scenery too!

I’ve only run here once during the Rockledge Rumble trail race, but it was my favorite trail run so far. Excellent trail. Loved the mix of terrain and thought it was fairly technical for the area. Definitely recommend it.

My best friend and I came here during the week in the heat of the July summer. We were disappointed we were not able to swim, but the beauty of this place is worth exploring. The drive in from either Austin or Marble falls is peaceful with lots of scenery. The park attendants are friendly and informative.

If you have any health risks, I wouldn’t recommend this hike for you. Also, bring extra water in the hotter months.

Great trail!

Tough trail in the Summer heat with LOTS of steps! Beautiful scenery but the creek was dried up.

Nice trail, very very little shade until you reach the falls. If you have Sprint you won’t have service at the bottom. When I got to the visitor center I didn’t have service there either. Nice hike, pretty views at the falls and of the Colorado River!

Very busy on the weekends. Don’t go if you’re looking to escape to nature. But do go if you want to get some leg work in.

Bring plenty of water in the summer!

Go for the pool, but don’t skip the hike!

Beautiful find in the middle of suburbia. Not a fan of suburbia, so this is a gem to me.

Great if you require stairs, otherwise switchbacks could have done without them.

I would rate this 4 stars as a trail but 5 for the overall experience. As others have said, the trail itself is rocky and often devoid of shade. But it's a short hike to the falls, which are absolutely worth a visit. Just bring lots of water and wear a hat during the summer, and you'll be fine.

Great hike. Short but just enough for an easy Sunday morning hike. Beautiful place!!! The only real challenge is the BIG hill. Get here early, they reach capacity quick and will not let anyone else in. $$entry fee!

So beautiful!! We went the day after thanksgiving and didn’t have a reservation. We waited in a car line for 20 minutes and it was more than worth it! If I could imagine a place where mermaids live, it would be Hamilton pool. So thankful we got to visit!! The hike is super easy and pretty heavily trafficked. I think most people don’t bring water which is a must do when hiking.

This was a tougher trail, there are a lot of steps throughout but it was a great workout and the scenery was gorgeous. i would suggest going earlier in the morning before it gets too hot, as there are some spots exposed to the sun which can be brutal.

Nice hike, lots of bike traffic. Will be back for sure!!

Great trail took the dog and the kids and all did great. We lucked out and arrived after a thunderstorm so temps were down. Rangers put out several water coolers along the trail which made things that much easier. Final descent down the rock portion was made easy with the railing but it can definitely get slick when rocks are wet. Overall a great hidden gem in central Texas!

Lots of steps. I agree with the hard rating, especially on a humid summer day.

I can see this being rated moderate, especially in summer. It’s exposed to the sun most of the hike with rocks to navigate. The decent down to the falls is steep but the wire guidelines really help. We had no trouble by being prepared w a lot of water, the right shoes, hats and snacks.
We hung out a while enjoyed the amazing oasis in the desert!!! We cooled off in a smaller water fall and swam in the Colorado river.
I loved this hike and so did my family.

Omg if you are looking to train for strength and elevation, this one is amazing. One-hour to the top and one-hour to the bottom. We set the pace on the way back.

We recently hiked at the Grand Canyon and are thinking of doing the Rim to Rim hike. We’ve been trying to find a place to train that isn’t flat. This hike fits the bill. It’s closer to 3 miles from trail head to end of trail, with lots of signs along the way to tell you your location. About 6 miles round trip. There are benches along the way as well. Follow the boardwalk signs to panther trail signs to the canyon trail signs. There are no water locations, so bring plenty. Even with shade this trail is hot. Great cardio workout, even walking.

If you have any sort of knee or back problems this trail is rough. It’s also busy. We went on a Saturday morning around 8 and there were already quite a few people there. Lots of trail runners as well, with narrow trail sections that make it difficult for passing. If you’re a trail runner, more power to you because there’s enough stairs to kill your legs.

Absolutely love these trails. It’s a great mix of level running ground, some mild switch backs, some sandy portions, and some more technical rocky sections. No huge hills or climbs.

Tons of mountain bikers if weather is nice so DO NOT wear headphones. I choose to run counter clockwise along with bikers bc while running I feel I have more of a warning. If I was walking/hiking, I’d go clockwise opposite of bikers.

A few water spigots at major breakpoints but take plenty of water with you as you’re pretty isolated most of the time.

The best part is that it’s not a true out and back since there are the east and west trails. Sometimes they merge, but it’s nice to go out 5 miles, turn come back on a different trail 5 miles to get in 10 (or easily more).

To prepare for our September hiking vacation, we hike portions of this trail 3 times per week. It can't prepare us for the altitude in the mountains, but it does help build our stamina, especially in the Texas summer heat. Probably the best hiking/biking trail in DFW. If you start at Rockledge Park on east end or Twin Coves Park on the west end, be prepared for a fee. If you start at the main Murrell Park entrance at the end of Simmons Road, or the old Murrell Park entrance at the end of N. Park Drive, there's no fee.
There are one way signs for bike traffic that goes counter-clockwise. For safety reasons, DORBA.org (who maintains the trail) recommends that hikers go clockwise so they can see oncoming bikes. This is important, because although hikers have the right of way, bikers rarely yield to hikers and you'll be jumping out of the way. A few years ago, I hiked counter-clockwise with the bike traffic and got run over from behind. That's why DORBA.org and the Army Corps of Engineers recommend walking against the bike traffic. Nice views of the lake on the some portions.

Love the trail! We are here hiking up and down every Saturday

Great trail for something a little more challenging. Nice and shaded for summer hikes. Restrooms in park across the street from Big View Dr. trailhead. Approximately 2500 stairs one way, 1700’ elevation change. Courteous fellow hikers on weekends.
